in the ongoing battle between kevin and les paul, les continues to win.  i realized today that this has been going on practically since we first got him, last june.

it may just last the rest of their lives, or at least as long as we still  live here.

kevin always figures that he’s thwarted les’s plans for getting out of the fence, but then les will suddenly be MIA.  last night, for example, i was getting ready for bed and couldn’t find him. i went out in the front and called him, and he came running, and he had clearly been out there in the wild for a while because he was very cold and hungry.

yesterday i was baking cookies and went out on the back deck to fan the cookie sheet back and forth, to cool it before baking another batch.  i looked over at this sight…

he was just resting up there, getting ready to hop down to freedom.  i hurried in to get the camera, and when i got back out he was still there.  i had time to take a picture, then get him off the fence, so it’s not like he was in a huge hurry to break free.

this morning kevin went out and fortified it further, and then watched to see what les would do, but he just followed kevin back in the house.  he’s busy plotting his next strategy, of course.

here he is, stomping around the yard after i got him off the fence.

he sharpened his non-existent claws, preparing for battle.

here’s a prisoner’s-eye-view of the geese in the yard.

mollie in the foreground, chester in the background, just happily hanging out.

chester continues to be content with staying in the yard checking out the wildlife.

but lest you think he’s angelic, kevin sent me this photo this morning when i was gone – chester really just wants to get in the sink whenever he can.

and that’s all for now on this kind of chilly and very gray monday,

mrs. hughes.
