This is the first of several posts i’ll be making about this sunday in wales, because we did a whole lot of stuff that day.

we started the day at our b&b in Carmarthen, had a fine breakfast, and headed out in the rain to the Wyndcliffe Court Sculpture Gardens, a short drive away.

our room in Carmarthen – it was big and comfortable, no complaints.

the reason we went to Wyndcliffe Court is because of Kevin’s BLOG.  he’d been writing on for a while, and somehow he found a guy named Charles Hawes, who hikes all over the place and writes an award-winning blog about his travels.  kevin and charles started communicating, and charles invited us to come to Veddw Gardens, the magical garden that his wife, Anne Wareham, created on their property near Chepstow.

Meanwhile, we got to Wyndcliffe Court in a cold drizzle.  Hmm, walking around a garden in the rain, how would that be?

it was a charming old house, and was open to the public to display sculpture.

but first, i found this notice in the bathroom really funny.

 

inside was a warm and inviting tea room, and look at all this cake!

we were the first ones there, but we were going to walk around a bit before having lunch.

all the little tables were set up, ready for eating, and i want a place just like this.  or at least i want to be able to go to a place like this somewhere nearby.

 

obviously, the comfy sofas by the fire are ideal spots for lunching.

but first, out in the rain…it was a beautiful place, but i kept thinking about how different our hike on the pembrokeshire coast path would have been if it had been raining.  it would have been a bit miserable, i suspect.

 

 

but it was a really lovely place.  if you look at their website, you can see photos with sunshine.

it’s funny that they had these little fawn statues, since we have the real thing all over the place here.

 

 

the sculptures were nice, but not cheap.  3800 pounds for this one…

…it would have been very difficult to transport back to the states.

 

i kind of wish i’d bought this bird, because it was charming.

these glass pieces were nice, too.  i don’t know why the photos are so fuzzy; it might have been due to the hastiness of me taking pictures in the rain.

 

this is a great butterfly chair.

it was all nice, but like i said, our enthusiasm was dampened by the rain…

but then, on to lunch!
