on sunday kevin laid the little baby squirrel under the giant hosta in the front, so he’d get the last bit of warmth of the day. he didn’t make it through the night. yesterday morning i drove in the driveway and a few squirrels were scampering near the hosta; the squirrels aren’t normally there. clearly, they had just finished a memorial service for the poor little guy.
because that’s the thing; who mourns for the animals? one morning i was taking a bike ride and there was a dead duck in the road. i made up a song for all the poor wild animals who get killed and nobody mourns for them.
perhaps i will sing it for you one day.
meanwhile, right now les and winnie are having a tussle. i’m hoping that les and the new kitty will want to spar and leave poor winnie out of it, although it does give winston a little bit of much-needed exercise.
this morning i took the new kitty to the APL to be neutered. poor little guy. he’s so skinny, and i know he hasn’t gotten any bigger, and maybe there’s something wrong with him. but he’s so sweet…i’m thinking about naming him Clyde, which is dad’s first name, although dad usually goes by don, his middle name, or CD. i figure that since we aren’t going to be having any children, at least dad can have a sweet kitty named after him.
clyde it is.
i was also thinking about the name chester, because i call les paul lester, and plus winnie’s full name is winston chedister III, and chester is kind of a combo of chedister and lester.
but then, when i call him, chester might think i was calling lester.
not that any cat ever comes when you call it. except for winnie, who always comes when i call for mollie.
it’s going to be so warm today that somebody could go swimming, i bet. the water might be just a bit chilly, though.
ok then,
tuesday morning grace.
