as i see may continuing to whoooosh righton by…

i did accomplish my power washing; it took two days, but now the deck looks dazzling!  plus i did a lot of weeding and trimming and mulching down by the dock, but i’m still not done there.  and then i was much too busy doing other things so far this week to get anything else done outside.  must do more!!!

but now, some pictures.

our trip to chicago, which is now fading fast, we left two weeks ago…we took the train, which left an hour and a half late, and then we got to chicago and boarded the metra, but my google map had told me to get off at some evanston stop that was a very very long way from our hotel, so we had to drag our suitcases a very very long way and mom was NOT HAPPY AT ALL about this, but she was a very good sport, of course, and we finally made it.

here’s me, riding in the back of aunt sandy’s car, on our way to a fabulous sushi dinner…

we then went to see this jazz band that sandy loves; what is their name?  she will tell me.  i thought it was going to be at a bar, but nope, they just hang out in this space that somebody’s dad owns.  so we had to first stop at the grocery store for a bottle of wine, and i tromped all over the store in my very very high white sandals.

the band was good, and i even have a couple of short video clips which i will put up here.

it was a very late night for me; we didn’t get back to the hotel til after midnight, but i got up friday morning for a little jog.

i had to stop frequently to take photos of the many beautiful flowers along the fancy streets of evanston.  here are some interesting lilacs – i’ve never seen this kind before.

i jogged down to the lake, and there was chicago in the distance.

and this is a view towards the indiana dunes state park, where we’d been the week before…but i sure couldn’t see anything of the park at all.

i stopped to watch dogs at the dog beach – amy, mom and i went here two years ago, right after dad died, when we were in town for sandy’s huge birthday celebration.  dad died two years ago the 18th, and it’s hard to believe that it’s been two years already.

here’s a dog swimming back to shore…

…it was so happy and excited to play fetch!

quite a few dogs were enjoying the beach.  lucky dogs.

and of course this made me think of our sweet mollie, but really, i think about her a lot.  but especially when i see other dogs.

here’s a beautiful…what is it called?  dogwood?  can’t remember.

there were so many lovely tulips in yards; the tulips were already gone at home, but in full bloom in evanston.

so it wasn’t the fastest run in the world, not that it’s ever a fast run, but i stopped to take one more photo of these irises.

i got back to the hotel and we had a lovely breakfast, and then mom and i went back down to the water.  here’s a weeping…dogwood?  i don’t know, they can’t all be dogwoods, can they?  but it was pretty, and i’d like to have one.

it got a little bit warm, but as we sat on a bench by the lake, a sudden cool breeze blew in, just as if some air conditioning had kicked in, which was really nice.

sandy picked us up and we stopped at the world market.  at first she started buying some jewelry on sale and commented that she was doing all the buying, when i was the one who wanted go to there.

but i was only getting warmed up, and soon had to get a big cart for all the stuff i crazily started getting.  i’m a world market addict, and i guess it’s good that the one we had here for a while closed.  but on the other hand, maybe they wouldn’t have closed if i’d gone there more often.

i had to take a bunch of pictures of painted furniture, because i want to do some of that.  not anytime soon, too much outside stuff to do!  but these were really cool.

dad painted on furniture a lot, and we still have some of it.

that friday night we went to see PUDDLES’ PITY PARTY, the main focus of our trip, and soon, i promise, very soon, i’ll put up the photos and the videos of him!

ok then,

mrs. thursday morning in a hurry hughes.
