this morning (a cool and lovely one, a respite from the blistering heat we’ve been having for much of june), i thought i’d post some photos of this month, since this is the very last day.  i’m taking a very short break from posting my photos of our trip to wales, very short because my goal is to get them all posted before a year has passed, and that has almost happened.

which continues to astound me.
i love this picture.

kevin found this when he replaced the old mailbox with the fabulous one that amy and mom made me for my birthday.  i keep forgetting to tell mom about it, but i’m pretty sure it must be the sign for a clubhouse she had when she was a child.  it’s sitting on my front porch, and hopefully i’ll eventually remember to mention it to her.  if you happen to see mom, please let her know!  because she is continuin her years-long complete uninerest in opening up her computer to look at anything.

lester always enjoys gnawing on a stick when we take a walk.

j3

everybody wanted to sit on the swing with no cushions out in the yard.  it’s not the most comfortable thing to sit on, IMO, but the kitties enjoyed it thoroughly.

but of course even though chester was content to hang out, les had to get up and explore after only a few minutes of quiet time.

j6

another day, another blissful day out on the dock.  if only lester could swim, he’d be out there trying to capture those dang ducks.

j8

and another day, he was creeping through the brush, a kitty in the wild.

here’s the only little bloom i had on my asian lilies by the dock.  it’s supposed to rain a lot in the next few days, so i think i’ll take the opportunity to transplant all those lilies.

j11

i had this huge and fabulous begonia that mom left here, but it was getting way too big for its pot, so amy pulled out some of the stems and stuck them in another pot, and it all looks kind of sad, but it’s very slowly recovering from the shock of being uprooted.  and then, eventually, i’ll have two giant begonias.  i’m running out of room for all my plants…this winter i’ll have to think of another strategy.

j12

we saw so many fawns this summer – this one was snuggled up against the tree in the back yard.  on august 6th, i was watering flowers on my deck, when an animal jumped up and it was a fawn!  it scampered away, and spent the rest of the day curled up here.

one more brave lily down by the dock!

j18

here’s the front of the house, with many new plantings this year.

j19

hmm, this part of the front already looks different.  those two lighter green hostas started to get cooked by the intense heat and sunshine, so i transplanted them and put them in the back yard.  i’ve already planted other things there.

j20

and kevin planted these flowers!  one morning i was coming home from work and mom called to tell me that she’d stopped by my house.  she mentioned that the back of the van was filled with flowers, which confused me.  kevin doesn’t buy flowers!  but he did, and he planted them, and they’re cheerful and lovely.  i guess i’ll have to take photos of all this stuff soon, because the marigolds are a lot bigger already.  the deer chomped quite a few petunias, but they’re coming back now.

j21

here are some lilies of amy’s.  i love them because they look like daffodils.

j22

all these photos make me realize that i’ve been busy this summer.

and in a little while, maybe even latrer today, i’ll get back to posting the photos from our last days in wales.

ok then,

mrs. last day of june hughes.
