Hmm, I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this kitty enclosure before…this is how it started out on November 14th. Kevin put clear plastic around the legs of an outdoor table and boards on top of it, plus cushions inside.

That, together with the old red leather chair with peeling leather over there on the left, not to mention that other cat house and random cat things made our front porch into something to see. We named the cat enclosure the Hillbilly Hideout, in keeping with the general hillbilly theme of the porch.

At the end of the year Kevin started working on a more serious house for the cats and came up with this wooden box complete with windows and a kitty door. Inside is the original Hillbilly Hideout , and you can just see Lemon drop hunkered down over on the right side of it.

Because Lemon Drop wasn’t familiar with a kitty door, Kevin pulled it out from the wall a bit.

I said I didn’t think that the cats could get into that small cat door so Kevin replaced it with a bigger door. I feel that Lemon Drop might never venture into the door, but you never know. Maybe next year? Kevin also added two more windows plus insulation because of the gap.

Inside, that’s a space heater on top of the hideout. It’s a fancy one that’s cool to the touch. There are also two heated pads inside with plenty of blankets piled around.

Kevin added more insulation on the top, and now it’s complete.

Well, not quite complete – kevin calls the box the Tardis, a la Doctor Who’s famous police box/spaceship and I believe he plans to paint it to look like a tardis this spring. Now that will be something!
Meanwhile, the kitties are content to sleep in there. They’re curled up in there right now, as a matter of fact – there were threats of up to 18 inches of snow last night and today. We’ve gotten about eight inches I think, and it made me sad to see poor Lemon Drop walking through the snow to find a place to go to the bathroom, and then I think she spent some time inside our neighbor’s garage. Our neighbor usually isn’t home and his garage is usually open a few inches anyway.
Kevin snow-blowed all the family driveways, and I shoveled off the back deck because Riley was desperate to get outside, but there’s quite a bit of snow covering it again. I think we’ll all stay inside now.
ok then,
Mrs. Winter Hughes.

Before I paint and add appropriate signage to make this Tardis-like, I have plans to add an inner staircase that will lead to an addition on the top with screened windows for warmer weather occupying and pleasure. Thus will the height dimensions of our Tardis more closely match the Doctor’s!
Ha Ha! Those are great ideas, but I’m not sure the kitties will be so interested in the Tardis when it’s warm outside. But maybe they will because you’ll be adding outstanding features…
