Whew, finally nearing the story of of our Florida trip, and now it’s already April…anyway, there were many things I wanted to do on this last day, but didn’t have time for all of them. It was kind of cool but sunny on this January Tuesday morning.

First, we drove out to the Myakka State Forest. . I had done a cursory search of it, but I didn’t do such a great job – I was hoping to walk along a path by some water, but when we got there it was just a path surrounded by the scrub bushes that are so prevalent in Florida. It was funny to me that they called it a state forest. Mom and I started walking, and we’d gone maybe 10 minutes and Mom had had enough – it was starting to heat up. I told her to go back to the car and I’d walk just a bit farther. I kept going, but nothing. I started yelling for Mom, in case she was nervous or had been abducted, but I didn’t hear anything from her. Luckily it all worked out, but it was a lot of driving to a place that was a disappointment. Oh well.

We turned around and drove up the Manasota Key road because I wanted to see what was up there. After passing fancy houses, we stopped at the Manasota Key Beach. It seemed quite nice, although I didn’t manage to find any legal parking spots, so we didn’t linger. I didn’t want to get towed. Here’s Mom and me, and now I realize this is one of many many many photos of Mom and me on a Florida beach. I’m starting to think that we should try a whole new state next year…

Not many people on the beach on this chilly day…

Here’s a very short video of the beach.

I wanted to go back to downtown Englewood to see if there were any spots of interest that I’d missed on Saturday night, but we had no time. Instead, we drove up to Venice to visit with Lori Ann and Bill, and went to a steakhouse. Always great to see them!

And that’s it for our last dinner in Florida; we had to get up and drive back to the airport on Wednesday morning.

Ok then,

Mrs. April Hughes.
