Incidentally, have you seen that movie? It’s one of my favorites for sure.
But that’s not what I’m writing about today; many things have happened and many photos, and I was trying to find a “before” photo of Mom’s house because she had a new roof put on, new gutters, and had it painted. I was looking through the July photos and realized I hadn’t included a few from there.
First, here’s Mom’s house on July 15th, before any work had been started on it.

And Ta Da! All done by the end of August. It was certainly done before then, but I can’t exactly remember when. The roofers were there on July 16th and I’m pretty sure they completed the job in just one day even though it was insanely hot and humid.

But then, the poor painter…besides the awful heat, he ran into so many issues, mostly involving many many wasps hiding in the shutters. Many. Kevin kept buying wasp spray and killing them, but there seemed to be a never-ending supply of wasps. One day I think Steve the painter got 18 wasp stings. I’d for sure have given up and quit right then, but he kept at it, all by himself, and it ended up looking fantastic. Steve also had to repair holes in the side of the house that woodpeckers had pecked, plus there were some rotting boards and the whole thing was a huge challenge.
There had been a bit of a kerfuffle about the color of the garage door; we all thought that the door should be left white, but Mom was adamant about wanting it to match the house. And since it’s her house, she got her wish and everybody agreed that it was a great decision. Mom, a true artist at heart even though it’s been a little while since she’s done any painting herself. But she knows what she likes! You can’t really see the maroon shutters so well, but trust me, they’re fabulous.
Here’s a photo from the beginning of July, when I was making some gazpacho and the recipe was on top of the stove and the Princess felt she needed to assist.

Here she was on top of the kitty tower upstairs later in the month. I didn’t know she ever climbed up it, but when I went up there one day she was thoroughly enjoying scaling all the way to the top.

July 24th, the first time we attempted a boat ride with Mom after her shoulder surgery. Kevin did most of the work getting her aboard, but he was happy to stay behind.

Yay, on the boat! Once again, I feel like we haven’t been out on the boat nearly enough, but as I always say, there’s always next year…Not to mention almost two more months remaining to go out this year. We’ll see.

And finally, Spot and Lemon Drop hanging out in their prison yard. It must have rained recently, because they’re usually lounging on pillows, but they must have been brought in and not replaced. Poor kitties!

Speaking of, Spot is loudly proclaiming his great hunger so I must cease and desist and feed the poor neglected things.
Ok then,
Mrs. Early September are you KIDDING me already Hughes.
