But first, MAY!!! How have I not had any free time, as usual? Anyway, here’s the short tale of Les Paul while Mom and I were in Florida way, way back in February.

We left on Feb. 24th and arrived in Florida that evening.

The next morning at 8:33 a.m., I got a text from our neighbors two doors down saying that Lester was hanging out on their porch. Now, I’ve written about Les escaping so many times over the years but there were many years when he didn’t break free at all, except when somebody lingered a split-second too long at the open front door and he’d bolt out.

But it was maybe in January that he started escaping from the fenced yard again, and Kevin kept fortifying the fence and figured he was in the yard to stay.

But no, he’d moseyed over to our neighbor’s house. I called Kevin to alert him of the escape and Kevin headed over to retrieve him, but Les was no longer around.

Then, at 9:15 in the morning, he showed up at our front door. Whew.

Kevin thought that Les was secured in our yard, but then, at 9:57, my friend Bev who was cat-sitting at Mom’s house two doors down sent Kevin this photo of Les in front of Mom’s garage.

Bev had glanced out the back window and was surprised to see an orange cat out there – at first she thought it was Pumpkin, but of course Pumpkin hadn’t left the premises. Cats don’t escape on Bev’s watch!

After taking the photo, Bev continue to keep a close eye on Lester so he wouldn’t be up to any more shenanigans. Once again Kevin corralled him.

At that point Kevin kept watch on Les in the fenced yard and realized that instead of climbing over the fence, because Les has lost weight he was able to squeeze between some fence portion.

After fortifying the fence for one last time, all was quiet. Here’s Les by 10:38 in the morning, sleeping angelically on Kevin’s hand.

He didn’t escape for the remainder of our trip, which was very good because I didn’t need to be worrying about Les while trying to vacation. Whew.

So, now what? I need to get cracking again on looking at all the photos I took in March and April, but on the other hand I finally, finally finished a first draft of my latest “Gracetalk” and really need to spend time working on it.

I started writing it in July 2023, so almost two years ago, completely and utterly ridiculous, but like I said, I keep having limited time to sit down and focus on what matters to me.

This is my birthday month of turning SIXTY TWO and I solemnly swear that I am going to start getting more stuff done.

Hmm, how, exactly are you going to do that, Mrs. Hughes? Somehow, somehow…

Meanwhile, this morning I planted more cat grass in pots because all the cats need a constant supply, and I dug up some catnip growing in the back and put it in a pot because Spot loves it. How can I be expected to focus, when I have yet to do all the stuff I was going to do AT THE BEGINNING OF COVID?????

I’m a little bit hopeless, I’m afraid.

Ok then,

Mrs. H.
