well, i managed to successfully upload another banner.  this time it has a border, but it’s not as thick as i’d like it to be, but it’s good enough for this time.  at least now i figured out a better way to make a border.

this morning i’ve been trying to creat a FAVICON.  if you hadn’t heard of that word either, it’s the little icon next to the site name.  so if the site is in your list of FAVORITES, it’s  FAVORITE ICON…FAVICON.

i did manage to create a favicon, but then the instructions were: “You must place it into the same directory as your home (index) page, and leave it loose, making sure not to put it in an images directory or other folder. The standard location is the “root” folder of your site, which is same directory as your home (index) page, not inside an images directory or other folder. If you put it there (and name it favicon.ico), most browsers will find it automatically.”

that doesn’t sound impossible, does it?

except it is.  so far.  what, exactly, is my root folder?  is that my home folder, or my public html folder, or my wordpress folder?  i tried putting it in a few different folders, but no luck.

there’s also another part of the directions that i’ve been trying to ignore, involving adding some CODE to…something.

this is what it says about that: “Some browsers will look for a direct link in the HTML source code to your site’s favicon.ico file. You can help these browsers by adding this link in the head section of each page on which you want the Favicon.ico to appear. Here is the link code to include: <link rel=”Shortcut Icon” href=”/favicon.ico”>
Once you’ve added this code, upload all of your modified pages.”

that’s starting to get a little confusing to me.  what is this page they’re talking about?

also, there’s just something about this whole HTML source code link code coding codes language code stuff that sounds…scary.  plus then this mysterious code has to be uploaded.  uploaded where?  how?

i know.  if only i was a small child, i’d be creating dazzling stuff on the computer in no time.
