thursday morning.  les just carried a huge sock roll into the room and dropped it on the floor.  he ran off to do many other important tasks before i could take a picture of him.

here’s a metal pole sticking out of the lake.  you could see a lot more of it when the lake dropped this summer.  also, why are people throwing plastic bottles into the lake?

i would go down to the water right now to see if the pole is now hidden by water, but then i’d have to run the gauntlet of the ducks.  they’re all hanging out by the bird feeder, because kevin pu out the food this morning.  from where i’m sitting i can see a duck chasing another duck, and a goose is up next to the feeder, sticking his beak into it and eating right out of it.

it’s very exciting around here this morning.

you usually can’t see all these rocks under the dock.  i keep wondering what would happen if i fell off the end of the dock, because it’s so low.  maybe there aren’t a bunch of dangerously-jagged rocks out there.  hopefully i won’t fall off the dock.

on amy’s birthday we went to scheel’s.  we just stopped by after going…where?  where did we go?  i can’t imagine it was anyplace more exciting than scheel’s, especially because of these great hats that amy and jim found.

here’s a toy stuffed fox.  we have a fox that we keep seeing near the road, and it’s much skinnier than this guy.  there were also a bunch of actual real animal pelts, which i tried not to look at.

the beautiful ellie, who is getting more friendly in her old age.  i figure that maybe that’s what’ll happen with chester, who did lie on kevin for about a half hour the other night.  usually he barely even wants to be touched, although sometimes he’s friendly until he CHOMPS you.

amy sent me this to show what she wears while pumping gas.

not only is it funny that she’s standing there in her socks, but the socks are so pristinely white.  well, they were before pumping the gas.  because i’m always wandering around in my socks, plus i wear them when walking in the field, i find it impossible to keep them white.

she was probably in a REALLY BIG HURRY, which is why no shoes.  she is usually in a REALLY BIG HURRY.

or else napping.

we went to this doggie fundraiser at the new southwind park, and they also had a car show and this is one of the fabulous cars there.  even though the event was almost over, mollie got to sniff many, many dogs, so she was happy.

les has a very hard life.

always so stressed out…all that debris in the lower left corner isn’t actual dirt, by the way…it’s the remnants of the catnip plant.  they love to eat the fresh catnip, but then they don’t manage to eat it all, but then les will eat an entire stalk of it, not just the delicate leaves.

they’re all just so tired.

ok, so we’ve had a couple of huge branches falling.  kevin walked out to get the mail the other day, and when he was walking back in the house i was at the door and we both saw this massive branch break off.  i mean, a HUGE branch, so big that kevin had to use the tractor to pull it away.

this tree had already lost another, slightly smaller branch, and i expressed my concern to my parents that it might die.  they were very blase about it – oh, it’s a fake pear tree, it’s old, people don’t plant them anymore because they’re always falling apart, is the gist of what they said.

i don’t know why it’s a “fake” pear; they said it’s a bradford pear.  maybe because there are no actual pears on it?  plus, the tree is really old, and has managed to hang on this long.

and then, yesterday morning, another branch came down, this time right in front of the house.  i told kevin that i’m worried that the trees might be trying to kill him.

here’s me looking very glamorous with my white socks (maybe you just can’t see the dirt in a photo, cause i know they are dirty) and slippers.

this was from the huge gumball tree right in front of the house.  now if that tree falls we’ll be in trouble, because it would crush large portions of the house.  i’m looking up here, trying to see if there are any more lethal dead branches ready to annihilate us.

so far, they’ve taken no action today.  i am on high alert.

ok then,

mrs. thursday morning hughes.
