last night, i had crossed everything off my list of things to do, and kevin, mom and i went to our friend kevin’s halloween party. the plan was to stay an hour. we were tired to begin with, plus there are many things to do today.
we stayed two hours, not a huge deal, only an hour more…but in those two hours i managed to eat enough for the entire week. i will probably never eat again.
they had chil, which was delicious, and somebody brought creamy and wonderful mac and cheese. and then there were these mini hot dogs wrapped in some kind of yummy pastry…
there was a whole buffet of desserts, which i tried not to look at, but then somebody brought in a container of mint fudge tracks ice cream. it was filled with big blobby pieces of chocolate. i had two big bowls.
plus wine, many different kinds of wine including chocolate wine which is really a silly drink, but i felt obliged to have a big plastic cupful anyway.
kevin and lola have three poodles; two of them, val and fiona, are standard poodles and the one little guy is named giles. they’re all rescue dogs. they haven’t had giles very long, and he has been very very afraid of everything, especially kevin (the kevin he belongs to, not my kevin), but now he’s not as scared. he let me pet him, but at first he was shaking a lot. val, on the other hand, reminded me of numie – he craved affection and attention and was very funny and silly. fiona is 15 years old, and when we came into the room where they were staying for the party, one of her ears was flopped over and she reminded me of the cat grizabella in “cats,” kind of frowzy and tired-looking.
poodles are fascinating dogs, i think – they seem so much like people instead of dogs.
mollie won’t be sequestered in a room for our party. she’ll bark at everybody first coming in, but pretty soon it will dawn on her that the party will be an orgy of food and attention. she’ll be milling and chatting and getting many many unauthorized treats.
kevin is watching a WWII movie right now to get into the festive party mood.
i’m never eating or drinking again.
ok then,
grace not so much feeling like partying on saturday morning.
