so i posted a photo from the show on facebook, and i got some comments from some “facebook friends,” and my actual, real friend kelly wrote and asked how the show was, and i responded, and then she asked something else and i was about to type some more and i thought I JUST WANT TO TALK TO HER!

so i called her and we had a lovely chat, plus her darling daughter katie recited a poem for me.

i think facebook kind of links you to more people – well i guess it DOES link you to lots of people – but also it’s part of making everybody more disconnected.

REAL LIVE TALKING.  TO A REAL LIVE FRIEND.

anyway, i sent a message to my friend gary in LA, and he sent me a link to his husband’s website with this awesome song called “sink or swim” on it.  here it is:

hecho derecho

so please click on it and listen!  it’s awesome!  Yaaaay, ben!

gary went to a friend’s house for dinner on new year’s eve – a sit down dinner for TWENTY PEOPLE.  doesn’t that sound fancy?  on facebook he posted photos of the many courses, plus the fancy menu.

i asked him if it was a sit-down dinner, and he said it was, the people rented two big round tables and squeezed them into their little living room.

most people have little living rooms in LA because almost nobody can afford big ones.

funny, cause last night i went to dad’s house and we watched this show on HGTV called “selling spelling manor,” about candy spelling, wife of late famoun TV producer aaron spelling, who sold her 65,500 sq. foot mansion with i believe 14 bedrooms and 27 bathrooms.  plus a bowling alley, a movie room, a room for the huge amount of silver, a room for over 700 dolls, and THREE rooms for wrapping gifts!  because at one time she wrapped 900-1,00 gifts herself at xmas.

plus a huge huge wine cellar.

plus a 17,000 sq. ft attic.

just slightly over the top.

the show is going to be on again on february 22nd, if you wanna see for yourself.  there’s at least one follow-up show, about her moving into a 16,000 sq. ft. condo.

craaaaazy.

oh, and she sold the mansion to a 20-something REALLY REALLY rich woman.  in her 20’s.  very young.

but i digress…

but i guess that’s just what i do.  i digress, i break things, and i fall down.  me in a nutshell.

i would like to go to a fancy dinner like that on new year’s eve.  ok, i guess a part of me would like to HAVE a fancy dinner like that, but i don’t think i could squeeze more than 10 people around my dining room table.  others would have to sit in the living room on the giant couch, which would not be good.

it’s something to think about for next new year’s eve, a fancy dinner party, although having everybody wear sweats or jammies sounds equally if not more appealing.

today i was reaching for the flatiron in the bathroom and i managed to snag my fabulous new red hair dryer on the faucet, which turned on, and the hair dryer fell into the sink, with the water tumbling down on it.

it might be broken.

i sat down on the couch to write this and i picked up my overly-full cup of tea and sloshed some out of the cup, and i feel like it went down into the keyboard but i turned the laptop over and shook it and no tea came out, so that’s a good thing.

anyway, i hope you’re having a good saturday.  i saw a little sliver of blue sky there for a few minutes, but other than that, gray grayness all around.

ok then,

mrs. new year wintertime hughes.
