you wouldn’t know it’s the first day of spring today.  it’s cold, windy, gray.

friday, though, it got a little bit warm.  when i looked out on the deck, there was a duck.  i don’t recall ever seeing a duck on the deck.  this one was clearly very bold, or maybe just very hungry for all the bird food out there.

winnie sat at the window looking out at him.  winnie would’t really have tried to chase the duck, would he?

when the duck finally flew down into the yard i let winnie out.  he was content to sit there surveying the scene.

the woodpecker really likes the suet a lot.

i wasn’t feeling full of pep and energy but i knew that the weekend was going to be cold and miserable and rainy so mollie and i went for a short walk.  i walked very slowly, and she ran around like crazy.  kind of like kevin running circles around me, only even more so.

i was surprise and delighted to see blooming daffodils in front of the spencer house.  these are the first one i’ve seen this year.

a little farther on, a few little white flowers were peeping up.

spring-2

as we walked back through the field, lots and lots of clover.

so even though the weekend is bleak, things are definitely looking up.

kevin decided to not go to the second day of the shooting today because it’s raining and whatever kind of shooting they were going to do couldn’t be done in the rain.  he’s down in the basement now doing bullet-related thing.  something about brass; he told me what he was doing when i first woke up, but i’d just woken up and even though he told me twice, i’m not entirely clear about what he’s doing.

he’s enjoying himself, and that’s all that matters.

this afternoon we’re going to see the 3-D Alice in Wonderland.  a perfect afternoon for a movie.

pretty soon i have to steel myself for the next step in my hillbilly huge no-tooth gap.  i’m supposed to start taking some kind of rinse twice a day.  some of the warnings and admonishments on the long list of stuff about the stuff said DO NOT RINSE YOUR MOUTH AFTER RINSING BECAUSE IT WILL INCREASE THE BITTER TASTE as well as THIS MEDICINE  MAY STAIN TEETH.

and a side effect that “may go away during treatment” is change in taste.

so you can see that i’m not wild about starting in on this antimicrobial oral rinse.  i’ll be not only a hillbilly missing one big tooth, but my remaining teeth will be stained plus it’s going to taste really really bad AND make other things taste bad too.

dad told me that when he’s had teeth pulled he never does any of the stuff at all that they told him to do.  the condition of dad’s teeth really aren’t a testament to following his advice.

ok then,

sunday hillbilly grace.
