dad says it’s his drug of choice – when he had shingles, the doctor gave him prednisone and he says it made him feel like he was in his 20’s again.

when i went to the doctor on friday, that’s what he prescribed for me.  i’ve been taking lots and lots of it since then.  i haven’t felt like i’m in my 20’s.  i’ve felt kind of like somebody with no energy whatsoever.  i’ve pretty much been sleeping, reclining on the couch, and sitting down.  this has been making me a little crazy.

yesterday i went to the lincoln memorial gardens pancake and sausage benefit breakfast with mom and randy.  i was tired and irritable and the place was STUFFED with people CRAMMED into the place.  the pancakes were mediocre, the sausage quite good, and when we were standing in line waiting for our food i was wishing i was back home on the couch.

at least we were supporting a good cause.  they also had a silent auction, and many of the things to bid on were baskets containing one or more bottles of wine.  there were many other things, too, many of them looking like people had found stuff in their closets that they didn’t want.  i wish i’d known about this before because i could have brought MANY MANY things for people to bid on.

there were different things like gift certificates for a free cake and stuff like that, and one was for a ride for eight people on a pontoon boat, with “drinks and a hot dog meal included.”  hmm, i could have offered something like that.  maybe not hot dogs.  and, of course, our motor isn’t working yet so that would mean just sitting there out on the boat instead of riding around the lake.  not quite as fun.

it started raining at four in the morning on sunday, and kevin went to his cowboy shoot and was there till about two.  i think it probably stopped raining around noon.  i’m glad i wasn’t there with him.  boy, my crabbiness would have been very bad then.

it was cold and windy most of the day, but it’s supposed to be in the 70’s by tuesday.  so SPRING HAS SPRUNG.  i went to weightlifting class this morning which was probably a little premature on my part because now i’m once again reclining on the couch, trying to get up the energy to go take a shower.  i really want to do a bunch of raking today, plus i want to paint a couple things, plus…plus…

i may instead attempt to take it easy.

i’m sorry i have no photos today.  i wish i’d taken some pictures of the bevy of fishing boats out on the lake on saturday morning.  they had some kind of catfish contest that started at eight, and i happened to be looking out the window and i counted 17 boats whizzing along.

one final bit of rambling for this morning – i highly recommend the dvd LONG WAY ROUND, as well as LONG WAY DOWN.  they are two documentaries about ewan mcgregor and his friend charley boorman, taking these long motorcycle trips.  we started watching them on netflix and they’re AWESOME.

jim brought one over for kevin to watch because he said “it’s a guy thing,” but it definitely isn’t just a guy thing.  in LONG WAY ROUND, they start in london and travel east all the way to new york.  they go through places that i’ve barely heard of, and they interact with all kinds of interesting people and you get to see things that you’d never even think about.  utterly, utterly fascinating.

in LONG WAY DOWN, they start in john o’groats, the uppermost tip of scotland, and travel all the way down to the tip of south africa.  i’d read that this one isn’t as good, but i think it’s good in different ways.  my only complaint is that i’d like to hear about it all more in depth, which is why i just ordered the book online – the hardback version was a whopping TWENTY CENTS, plus four dollars shipping.

watching the DVDs really makes me appreciate this kind of travel.  in the second one, they talk to different people they meet up with – one guy is on a bike, travelling the world all by himself.  they also run into an older couple who has been riding around the world for…a long time…seven years?  i can’t remember.  amazing, so amazing.  ewan and charley have a cameraman and a support team who travel the same route, although not right with them, but they have tons of aid and assistance and here these other people are on BIKES, just all by themselves.

it doesn’t make me want to take any kind of journey for that length of time, but it certainly makes me want to go on another bike trip.

i can also see how it’d be appealing to take a big motorcycle trip, if i didn’t hate being on a motorcycle because of feeling like my neck is going to snap off plus being sure that i’ll crash and die.

ok then,

monday morning drugged up grace.
