ok, the end of october looms menacingly at me…
many, many sailboat pictures.
first, the day, sometime in september, when kevin was so dying to get out on the sailboat that he went out on the lake with just the little sail, the jib, right? the little sail in the front, because the main sail DOESN’T FIT THE BOAT, have i mentioned that? we have to order a new one for next summer.
meanwhile, this little jib is also not the real jib, but a storm jib, which means that it works best in really windy weather.
so he set out with just the storm jib.
here is the cacophony of ropes.

busy busy busy.

and off he went…

i kept my eye on him for a while but then had other things to do (probably just zombies to kill), and when i looked again he was across the lake and not moving at all because there was very little wind. but then the wind picked up, and he was out for at least a couple hours. he had a good time.
and then the it got later and later in the year and we finally had to take the sailboat out of the water. here’s my picture from the sailboat launch, and that’s garrick in the front of the boat, then mom, then kevin. my job was just to drive the van over, but not to back the trailer into the water cause that’s well beyond my job description.
i did manage to back the van a little bit in the direction of the dock, but then i quickly realized that there was no way i’d be able to actually back the trailer into the water. unless i had hours and hours to do it.

garrick looks pretty excited, getting close to shore.

and garrick, being an ex-military man, was very good at taking orders, which mostly involved holding the rope and not letting the boat drift away.
you may recall that was my job when we launched the sailboat. so maybe you don’t actually need military training to accomplish it.

…as mom supervised operations…

meanwhile, kevin dashed up and backed the van into the water, quickly and efficiently…

…and then he scrambled out onto the trailer to get the boat to slide in, as garrick continued to bravely hold onto the boat.

kevin had to get into the water to attach the rope to the front of the boat. luckily he was wearing his water shoes.

…and kevin continued to work furiously…

and then he told garrick to tilt the motor out of the water so it wouldn’t scrape the bottom of the dock going up. garrick tried his best…

but kevin had to show him how it was done.
meanwhile, i continued to document it all as kevin got the boat ready to tow back home.

and MY GOD I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT’S THE LAST PHOTO FROM SEPTEMBER!!! YAAAAY for me!!!
hmm, it is possible, in theory at least, to post all the photos from october before the month runs out.
but of course it’s only a theory, and there’s a scant number of days left in the month.
ok then,
sunday grace.
