on wednesday – first, i shoveled the deck. then, i shoveled a path in the yard to the bird feeder. next, i decided i’d just shovel all the way down to the dock. i hate wading through big drifts of snow, so i figured i’d just clear a path. the snow was pretty deep near the house, but as i went farther down the hill it wasn’t so bad.

it was brilliantly sunny, which made things seem much better.

here’s the path all the way down to the dock.

mollie can’t go out the doggie door onto the other back porch because of the big drift…

…but as you can see from all the bird tracks, the birds were spending a lot of time back there.

swan. squirrel. bird.

here’s the view halfway down as i went out again, feeling the need to document the path. it was so much easier walking on it, instead of trudging through the snow.

i did get a little bit crazy at this point – because amy also went down to the dock to feed the swans, i shoveled another path leading to her back door. after that i decided i needed yet another path around the side of our house, for when and if the screen door to the outside freezes and we can’t get out the back door to feed the birds.

the lake still wasn’t frozen on tuesday.

i don’t know why i shoveled that little path over there on the right of the dock…maybe it was in case somebody wanted to put the ladder in the water.

here’s a closer shot of the dock..the only problem now is that that thin layer of snow that was left is now like a skating rink.

a million years from now, when it’s warm again outside, i can sit on this chair and remember the snow.

mollie wants to go out all the time, mostly to eat the bird food. she is going more and more crazy, not getting a walk.

i was trying to get her to come inside as she felt she didn’t get quite enough to eat.

the lake finally froze yesterday, and now the ice looks pretty thick. perfect for skating if i wanted to be out there.
not gonna happen.
ok then,
good friday morning from mrs. groundhog day blizzard of 2011 hughes.
