my brother has a big blue van – not a minivan, a BIG van – and today i had to drive it. i had to drive it on the highway, i had to drive it on the part of the highway that is under renovation and there’s this one part that has a concrete wall on one side and the edge of the bridge on the other side and it seems very very narrow and i HATE that part of the construction and of course it was worse in the big blue van. at least right before me was a big truck and randy pointed out that the truck made it through, so i would, too.
randy came over to help today with the moving, as others fell by the wayside. randy had stayed out very very late last night (AGAIN) and was just a bit hungover. he still managed to be very helpful, and he didn’t throw up or anything, which was very good. he’s threatening to stay out late again tonight and i said FINE, BUT YOU STILL HAVE TO HELP AGAIN TOMORROW.
i also had to back up the van. i hate hate HATE backing up in a car, and especially in a great big van. a few years ago somebody made randy back up the van and he somehow sort of…dislodged…the rearview mirror. so he didn’t want to do any backing up. and kevin can’t drive the van because of his knee. i had to back up a couple of different times, but somehow i managed to not rip off any mirrors or crash into anything.
still, this was not something i’d wished for on my birthday.
perhaps tomorrow i won’t have to drive the big blue van at all.
i’m sitting outside in our backyard typing this, and i wish i had the camera so i could show you what it looks like. i’m on the swing with the stuffing hanging out because the birds and/or squirrels ripped into it. in front of me is an untidy mound of siding that was ripped off the house, plus various pieces of wood and cardboard. there’s also a pile of shingles and a couple of empty gas cans. and one lone dumbbell. the grass desperately needs to be mowed. maybe tomorrow morning.
but the circle garden is full of beautiful tall purple flowers, as well as deep purple irises, and there are more irises blooming in another part of the yard and also clematis. it smells good out here and it’s warm and lovely and i wouldn’t mind sitting out here for quite some time. honey the cat is curled up next to me, undoubtedly dreaming about killing something or other.
i just made some birthday chocolate chip cookies because i wanted to.
ok then, i hope your weekend is going well and you get outside and enjoy nature.
grace, yet one more year older
