yesterday amy and jim went to see jim’s nephew takil in a wresting match – he won, and now he’s going to state! whoo, takil!
so i babysat numie and noodle, who were very good and extremely EXTREMELY excited about coming over. numie was so excited to put on his clothes that he was making funny little whiny noises, noised like shadow used to make. i’ve never, ever head numie do that before. he hasn’t been outside very much since the cold weather started, except when they take them out briefly. mollie was excited to see them both because she hasn’t seen them so much lately.

noodle was just happy we were there.

here they are in their stylish clothes. noodle’s jacket is kind of snug but he doesn’t seem to mind so much. i haven’t put numie’s snood on him; that goes last because he’s not so crazy about it.

even though the dogs were going crazy running around and barking and trying to climb up me, ellie just quietly perched there on the back of the couch. she’s an unflappable cat.

numie in his snood. when we got down on the dock he basically shook it off so i put it in my pocket.

this is what the lake looked like yesterday. it’s so prettywhen it’s sunny.

ok, but the thing is, mollie was being, well, kind of a bad dog. she didn’t mean to be bad – she was just very keyed up because she was excited to be out in the snow with her dog cousins. she kept barking and racing up and down the hill like a maniac, which was fine, but then she suddenly lunged at noodle, barking like crazy. noodle barked back and it was all over in a minute, but it was totally mollie’s fault.
noodle has come so far in becoming a quiet and sane dog, but mollie was provoking him. after noodle lunged at her, he sat there quietly on the dock, kind of cowering. i felt bad for him and petted him and told him he was a very good dog, as mollie started tearing around all over the place again.

here’s the mystery photo. if you can guess what it is, you get a prize. this might not even be the right orientation. i had to have taken this picture, and that green color looks like my jacket – but i don’t know what that black cord could be, there’s no black cord on my jacket. plus there’s that fuzzy thing over it that looks like some kind of wire or cord or something. plus on the top, is that a button? i just can’t figure it out. and what is the black thing? i just don’t think it’s me.

i’m sure numie and noodle were very jealous that mollie got to run all around. but like i said, they were just happy to be out.

we got inside and noodle took up the post at the window. he was looking at the birds. i wonder what he’d do here at night when the raccoon comes to visit.

he did start to relax more in the chair pretty quickly.

and numie, of course, is always ready to sleep under a blankie.

mollie is kind of relaxing, but also kind of on edge – she never knows when numie is going to leap over and try to touch her, which forces mollie to hurry away so she doesn’t have to be in contact at all.

how could you not love this dog? he’s just so cute, all the time, no matter if he’s being bad or crazy.

like right now, not full-on crazy, just a little bit of furious and frantic shredding the already very shredded bunny what used to be a slipper but have evolved into fuzzy road kill. we give this to numie so he won’t destroy mollie’s fuzzy bunny or her fuzzy hedgehog. she would be very upset if numie was to rip out all their stuffing and eat it…which he desperately, desperately want to do.

and then, he’s done and looking completely adorable again.

it looks like noodle said “HEY! WHAT ABOUT ME, WHAT AM I, CHOPPED LIVER? WHY DOES HE GET TO BE IN ALL THE PICTURES?”

and here, it looks like noodle has numie’s ears sticking out of the top of his head.

and then they’re both sleeping peacefully, two angelic doggies…for at least five minutes, or till mollie starts furiously barking at absolutely nothing in the driveway. she only acts like that when they’re around, because EVERYTHING IS MUCH MORE VIVID when there are three dogs instead of only one.

mollie, too, had to finally close her eyes. the excitement was just too much for her.

today things have been much more quiet.
last night, on the other hand – mr. raccoon was sitting outside the window calmly and quietly eating the bird food and mollie kept going COMPLETELY CRAZY, and she kept running out the back door to the fenced-in yard to BARK HER HEAD OFF AT THAT DAMN RACCOON, then she’d tear back inside and BARK LIKE CRAZY SOME MORE, and then back outside and there was a long period of her standing out there barking and i finally made her come inside and i shut the door so she couldn’t get out again. i was sure that amy and jim were sleeping and annoyed by all the barking.
when we went to bed i kept the door closed and she sat in front of it for a long time, whining every once in a while to be let out to GET AT THAT DAMN RACCOON.
whew.
ok then,
winter grace.
