Question: when is it time to clean the pet fountain?
whenever i fill up the pet fountain i try to avoid looking at it too closely because invariably there are things floating in it. the animals always manage to get bits of leaves and debris in it, and probably it’s really just the dogs who are doing it.
kevin and i don’t have any kind of schedule about who is going to clean it out, but sometimes one of us will break down and do it because it’s too dirty.
last night i wasn’t feeling good at all, battling a cold, kevin is gone to some national shooting competition, i just wanted to go to sleep, and i heard the sound of the water gurgling in the fountain, meaning that the water level was very low.
i couldn’t help but notice that there were lots of things floating in it…and then, there was something poking out of the place where the water flows. it was definitely a sprout. there were quite a few sprouts. very gross.
i took the fountain all apart, which is what you have to do when you clean it, and i put it all back together and do the dogs even really care anyway? sprouts or no sprouts, mollie drinks out of muddy puddles when we’re taking walks.
so i did it for the cat…but i’ve also noticed that winnie’s favorite thing to drink from is this water bowl in the bedroom that i have for amy and jim’s dogs when they come to stay here. many times this bowl has been outside and so there are lots of things in it, plus the water isn’t clean anyway. but winnie will stand there and meow for it if the bowl is outside.
the only reason i’m not in bed right now is because shadow had been pacing around anxiously this morning, STARVING TO DEATH, and he finally climbed the doggie stairs up to the bed and came over and stood on top of me.
i’m eating a bowl of chocolate pudding, which makes everything much better.
i need to be better because i want to go to the art fair tomorrow, plus the wine-tasting at the art fair. i’m sure the wine would help my cold…
