2.
yuck.
i decided to see what the kitties would do if i opened the back door for them.
lester, naturally, leapt right out. see that little space where the snow fell through the cracks? he played with that for a while, then bounded out.
chester, meanwhile, really wanted no part of the whole thing.

at first i couldn’t find les, but then i spotted him, camouflaged like a deer among the branches.

les ran in and out a few times, and he and chester swiped at each other a little, but chester refused to go out.

at this point the wind was blowing fiercely, and les doesn’t look so happy about being outside.

sensibly, he finally joined mollie on the couch.

chester prefers to roll around on the kitchen floor in front of the heat vent. he meows at me every once in a while.

i had no intention of going outside today AT ALL, so i took this picture of three cardinals on the fence. the closest one took off just as i was pushing the button.

this is our new, bigger bird house feeder. as you can see, the food in the chimney is almost gone. kevin had filled it at six this morning.

so i put on my coat and hat and kevin’s boots and went out to refill the feeder plus the other big feeder out in the yard. mollie ran out with me, but she quickly came back because it’s too damn cold to be out there for long.
as i made a couple of trips in to get more bird food, lester ran right out. oh brother. surely i wouldn’t have to chase him through the yard?
i finished feeding the birds and went inside, thinking les had come in, but only chester was padding around. i looked out and there was les on the porch, desperate to get back in.
so at least he’s not going to run off in this weather, but i don’t think i’ll leave the door open anymore anyway.
last night i helped kevin put the blade on the mower/snowplow. i mostly held the flashlight, but then i had to slowly back it up so he could attach the chains to the tires.
“why didn’t we do this last week when it was warm, plus during the day when it was light out?” i asked. “that would have been too easy,” he said.
at least he did it last night.
i was really hoping that the dire predictions of plunging temperatures, fierce winds and a snowstorm would be wrong wrong wrong, but when i woke up this morning, there it was.
at least it’s almost the middle of january and this is the FIRST snow of the winter.
the question is, can i stay inside til march?
ok then,
mrs. anti-winter hughes.
