i was sure that Shadow wasn’t going to live through the night. at some time around four he was finally lying down on the bedroom floor and i picked him up and carried him into bed with us. he was just lying there between us, and kevin pet him and i kept rubbing his nose. every time i stopped he raised his head up and looked at me, so i just kept going.
i’d drift off to sleep and i could feel him change position and i’d open my eyes and he’d just be looking at me.
finally, at 6:30, after neither of us slept very much, he stood up and walked to the edge of the bed. i set him on the floor and he tottered off to the kitchen.
he was hungry. he’s supposed to have his blue liver pill an hour before he eats but i figured that he wasn’t going to live out the day so he might as well just get some food right now instead of the huge pill.
he wasn’t interested in any bread or hamburger or egg from yesterday, but he did want a mini hot dog. he ate one and a half. then i boiled him some rice with chicken broth. i mixed that with chicken and and he scarfed it down. i gave him another little bowl and he maybe half. he clearly wanted more food but he wouldn’t eat…i tried all the stuff from yesterday again but of course he didn’t want that.
we went outside and he seemed just fine, like nothing was wrong. i went back to bed.
and now…he was sleeping on the kitchen floor when i got up. i picked him up and carried him to the couch and he’s sleeping next to me. kevin is at the store buying more food for him, in case he might be tempted by crackers and more hamburger.
i guess i could call the vet, but what if she says to bring him in, and we do, and she says we have to put him to sleep right there? he doesn’t seem to be unhappy now…
but i didn’t think anything was wrong with Honey the cat that morning when she wasn’t breathing quite right.
not such a good day today.
ok then,
monday grace.
