I got up even earlier to go for one last run on Saturday March 1st. I was out the door at the crack of 9 a.m.

Pelicans were lined up along the seawall while across the way workers worked on continuing to fix the place up after the hurricane.

I ran all the way to the jetty yet again and there were quite a few people, plus this pelican taking off.

I can’t recall if I forgot to eat anything before running, but I do know that I had some money with me. I stopped at the little cafe at my end of the beach but decided against it, and pressed on. This is the very first day this jetty had been open after the hurricane and I was happy to chomp on a delicious toasted bagel. Yum, it makes me want one right now.

There are always some hardcore people out there on the water – here’s somebody paddle boarding, and maybe you can see that somebody is swimming way out there. I guess I might consider swimming that far into the ocean, but I’d definitely never venture out on a paddle board.

And, synchronicity, the bridge rose as I approached it and that was a fun way to end my time at the beach.

Our flight didn’t leave til 5 p.m. and I was able get a late check out at noon. We had enough time to pack up everything, but I remember running around like a crazy person because I guess that’s what I always do.
The cleaning lady showed up and I was still scrambling around, hurling stuff into the car. Whew.
We cruised around Venice a bit, admiring some more of the fancy houses, and then we stopped at Publix to get a sandwich for our flight. After that we stopped one more time at Lori Ann and Bill’s and had a lovely chat, plus she’d bought us some delicious pan au chocolat, which I’d mentioned is one of my favorites. Lori Ann is very, very thoughtful and kind.
We had an easy drive to the airport and dragged our suitcases quite a distance from the rental car lot and by the time we got through security and to the terminal, the plane was already boarding. I can’t recall ever having such a speedy experience at an airport. Here’s Mom and me as we’re about to board after our walk across the tamac.

I didn’t get to see the sun setting over the ocean, but this was pretty spectacular, somewhere over the midwest.

Now, finally, as the end of April creeps up, that’s finally all the photos of our exciting trip to Florida. I would be very happy to spend a month or two there every winter, but of course we have so very many cats to think of.
Ok then,
Mrs. April showers Hughes.
