not so hot outside. things are pretty good.
kevin’s birthday was saturday. it was very low-key. i bought him many, many DVDs.
i went with dad to the doctor yesterday. dad likes the doctor, which is good, and i liked him too, and dad is doing better now. he even drove somewhere in his own car yesterday. yay, dad!
i have been watching a lot of the olympics. the thing is, why don’t they show some of the different kinds of sports, so people can see what they’re like, so they might get some interest, plus there are some people who would like to see, say, fencing. i don’t care about all the preliminary running things; all that matters is the gold, isn’t it? or at least just not so much running.
also, i read about how hope solo talked about the serious partying they did at the last summer olympics, in beijing. she said that they snuck guys into the olympic village, and named vince vaughn as one of the guys. i could see that. she said people were having sex on the grass there. she said that after the women’s soccer team won gold, they went out and got drunk, and in the morning they changed out of their party clothes, back into their uniforms and went on the Today show drunk.
hmm, not such an inspiring story for kids who look up to sports figures.
kevin’s ex-wife worked at the olympics before that, in atlanta, and kevin just told me that she said they were instructed to look away from all the people being snuck into the olympic village, and that all kinds of stuff was going on.
hmm. so this makes me think that this is how it always is at the olympics. surely it’s not all the athletes, because you’d think that at least some of them would have to be focused on their actual olympic events instead of having sex and getting drunk. hope solo didn’t say that this stuff was happening just at the end, after they’d won, but all during the 17 days.
and if you’ve read at all about the original olympics, way back there in greece, you’d know that this is how it was back then, too. except the drinking and sex didn’t include women, because they weren’t allowed at the games. oh yeah, and the athletes were nude, so that certainly must have heightened the sexual tension.
