do you know who he is? have you ever heard his stuff? have you ever SEEN HIM IN CONCERT?
he’s a guitarist. he’s not just a guitarist, he’s the MOST AMAZING GUITARIST EVER.
do you scoff? if so, you CLEARLY HAVEN’T HEARD/SEEN HIM. and it’s not just me saying this…amazing guitarists have said that he’s the BEST GUITARIST EVER.
last night we were lucky enough to see him in concert, at the sangamon auditorium. in the FRONT ROW. we had been talking about going to see him (i’d never heard of him but kevin had, because he’s from australia) and then my friend ann called and said she was selling two tickets in the front row.
sweet.
if you even do a cursory glance at him online you’ll see the huge amount of stuff he’s done. not only is he the best guitarist ever, he’s also an amazing, amazing performer. he’s clearly, genuinely a happy person, delighting in what he’s doing. how many people in the world can you say that about? there’s just so much pure fun and joy in his whole body as he performs.
what a pleasure. how lucky we were to see him. i looked at his upcoming tour dates, and he’ll be basically everywhere around the world. maybe we’ll get to go someplace far away and see him sometime…
on other fronts, i was sure this morning when i got up that Shadow would be dead. not a great start to the morning, but he just seemed so sad and tired last night and he barely ate anything. but then, today, we’ve found a kind of dog food that he at least loves today and he’s eaten a lot and no throwing up and he’s walking around and happy and that’s a very good thing.
i’m tired of being tired because of not sleeping well because of worrying about our dog.
tonight should be good, though.
ok then,
wednesday already grace.
p.s. i realize my fatigue isn’t making me very eloquent about tommy emmanuel, nor very specific. maybe kevin will add something about him…

So the request is out there for me to add my 2 cents… I first heard about Tommy while on a visit to Oz (australia) back in 1999. I heard his stuff both on the radio and on cd. I bought his “Classical Gas” cd while in Melbourne. I was a fan from the first moment I heard him, so the opportunity to see him in concert was extraordinarily exciting! I had seen some of his concert schedule and had even considered flying to Calif to see him. Then, voila, he’s scheduled to play Sangamon auditorium. Woo hoo! Down to business…. I had heard his work. and some of the music these great sounds/noises. Until I saw him in person, I had NO IDEA he made all these sounds WITH A GUITAR! Incredible harmonics! Percussives!! Rhythm AND lead playing at the same time!!! and his dymanics .. from fast/loud/powerful to tender/soft/quiet in a beat with a break in time then back into the power… WHEW!!! My throat was sore yesterday from hootin’ and hollerin’ at the concert. And the showmanship of the man is extraordinary – he is confident, accomplished, yet humble and having just a GREAT TIME on stage…. yep … WOW!!!!!
