7:15 p.m. already, not exactly sure what became of the day.  amy and i took shadow and mollie to the downtown farmer’s market and it was too crowded for mollie, anyway.  i bough some edamame and they look kind of fuzzy, which is a little weird.  maybe when you buy them at the grocery store, they’ve been de-fuzzed.

amy and jim and i took a walk and it was hot and humid and very hot and quite humid.  the dogs just wanted to lie down in the shade after a while, and we even ran out of water.  luckily we all survived.

luckily also, we weren’t marching around in wool outfits.  that’s what kevin has spent the day doing, in a place called bement, illinois.  they had some kind of lincoln day there or something and kevin’s newest hobby, the 114th regiment, was there dressed up in their civil war-type clothes including wool pants and jackets.  but maybe he didn’t have to wear his jacket all the time.  i’m not sure; he’s finally home now, but is now getting ready for cowboy shooting in the morning.

yeah, that’s a lot of shooting.  the civil war thing, it’s not actually shooting bullets, it’s a once-a-week flag-lowering ceremony at lincoln’s tomb, and lots and lots of tourists go there to watch it.  they fire their guns but not with real bullets which of course wouldn’t be so good for the people standing around if they were to get hit.

i think they sat around quite a bit today, at the civil-war-type camp, and they probably told people about what it was like to be a civil war soldier.  the wives of the faux soldiers made them chicken and dumplings for lunch which doesn’t sound like the perfect hot weather food to me, but kevin said it was delicious.  he also said that the other wives wondered where i was.  i told him i hoped he’d told them i was at home WORKING LIKE A SLAVE.

there is now a huge huge pile of empty boxes on the front porch.  this is a very satisfying feeling.  there are still many tubs full of framed photos and all kinds of pictures not to mention many many more boxes in the garage…

but it’s saturday night.  enough already with the working.

ok then,

still grace.
