I took lots of blurry photos of the Lipizzaner Stallions on Tuesday night. it was an enjoyable show.
here is one of the horses doing one of the most difficult things, where they rear back on their hind legs.
there was a lone black horse, some kind of Belgian, who trotted around to big band music. He was beautiful.
The emcee talked about how the Lipizzaner stallions in Austria were in danger of being killed by Nazis in WWII, and how American troops came in and saved them.
at the end they turned up the lights and most of the horses came out for a quadrille.
This reminded me of an ice skating maneuver, when skaters skated around in a circle. The horses were really good at it.
one or two of the Lipizzaners from Austria, but most are from Florida. the emcee talked about the branding on the horses – the Austrian horses, especially, had a bunch of different brands – a big one on the flank, and a couple of big numbers behind their shoulders. all these brands worried me, and i looked it up, and it seems that the brands hurt, a lot. i wonder why they felt the need to brand them so much.
