So, Mrs. Hughes, are you going to start just posting here on every holiday? Like the movie “Holiday Inn,” with Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire, one of my favorites except that they do put on black face for a big dance number which seems racist right now.
Anywho…Time continues to fly, and I think we’re finally done with the reasonable weather so hopefully it’ll be so cold out that I’ll be sitting here on the couch, writing. I started working on another “Gracetalk,” BTW, and I hope to actually perform it before I turn another year older. So there, a goal.
I went running yesterday, as well as Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Each day I jogged through the woods, because we’re on a break from the bow-hunting for deer around the lake til December 16th. Here’s the very start of the woods right across the street.
Actually, when I started out on Sunday I was certain that the bow hunting was on a break since November 16th, but I was still a little nervous and hoping that if there were hunters in the woods, they would notice that I was a person in a bright yellow jacket and not a deer.
I called Kevin and asked him if I was right about the hunting and he said, “I think so,” but that didn’t entirely satisfy. I tried to look it up on my phone but of course couldn’t pull up anything. I tried calling Jim who of course didn’t answer, so I called Kevin again and he’d known I’d be worrying and had looked it up and we were right, I was safe. Whew.
When I got to the university I stopped to swing, which was highly enjoyable.
I did lose a glove but luckily it was white, and I re-traced my path and able to easily spot it.
It was cloudy on Monday. I ran the same route, through the new woods and then the old ones. I went on the top part of the old woods, because the last time I’d been on the lower part of the path, it ended and I was lost a little bit. As you can see, the upper path is very well-defined.
It was nice to see this cheerful purple flower.
But then hmm, the path was suddenly blocked by a big tree that I had to climb over.
But it was all good, and once again I stopped to swing.
As I headed back I realized I’d dropped my pepper spray which is in a pink container so I was hopeful that I’d also find it. I hold onto the pepper spray for safety when I go into the woods even though it’s just me and the deer.
I ended up running farther than I intended in order to re-trace my steps like I’d done the day before, but no such luck finding it.
Later in the day Kevin and I drove over to campus, where I’d stopped to swing. I was hoping it’d have fallen out there. Nope. I thought maybe I’d dropped it when taking a picture of swinging. Because, in case you hadn’t noticed, I go a bit crazy with the taking photos.
As we walked along, the wind started to pick up it was suddenly cold and I started jogging a little to try to keep warm, but still, no pepper spray. Oh well.
On Tuesday I re-traced my path again and this time I stopped at the student union and asked at lost and found, but the only pink thing the young woman could find was a pink water bottle. I’ve given up now.
Yesterday, rain was forecast at noon so I started out at 11, hoping that I wouldn’t get wet.
This is the end of the new woods heading out to the field.
I decided to run down to the lake to the lower part of the old path, determined that I wouldn’t get lost, nor would I drop anything. Even though I had to climb over plenty of fallen trees and the path did sort of disappear, I was happy to run down by the water.
After climbing over a few branches and only getting little lost, I found the exit to the field.
It was a good run and only started to rain about 15 minutes before I got home, so I was only somewhat soggy, plus it was it wasn’t so chilly so I didn’t get cold.
And that’s it for my running week.
I’m in charge of roasting the turkey breasts today, and I put both of them in two big crock pots but about a half hour ago I realized that one of them had turned off somehow, so I turned it up to high in hopes of it getting done in time. Hmm, I wonder if I couldn’t pop it in the microwave for a bit if it’s not done? In order for the skin to crisp up, I also have to put it in the broiler. I’ve never used a crock pot for turkeys before, so hopefully they’ll turn out delicious.
I was also in charge of bread/rolls and luckily I made all of them the last couple of days, when not busy running. Many, many bolls and lots of bread.
Meanwhile…Randy and I took a short trip to Chicago a couple of weeks ago and I have many photos to post, so hopefully they’ll be up here before Christmas. But you never know.
I hope your holidays are fine; it seems the holidays have many triggering bad things for so many people, and I hope you’re not one of them, but if you are, I hope you get to do something enjoyable.
Ok then,
Mrs. Thanksgiving Hughes.
I love your energy!
I miss Wanda more and more on holidays not being able to talk. She was such a wonderful sister. You have probably heard Sam and Michelle are moving to Springfield.
Hi Phillips, I’m so sorry for your loss. We were just talking about Wanda tonight actually. And yes, we know that they are moving to Springfield. Good for them!
