I’M TAKING TAP DANCING!  i love tap dancing.  i started taking it when i was 16, if i recall, and i loved it then because it was fun and LOUD, the same reasons i love it now.  i was in “no, no, nanette” at the muni, and every night i tapped my heart out.  for two glorious weeks, i was at my perfect weight because of all that tapping every night.  fun PLUS achieving my perfect weight, something i’ve never achieved in my life since then…

i tapped in other plays, too – “42nd street,” which was pretty hard, or at least that’s what amy tells me, because she was in it too and has a better memory than me.  i remember that we rehearsed at the old YWCA on the second or third floor and there was no air-conditioning and it was very, very hot.  i also tapped in “a chorus line,” and i still wonder how i ever got in that all-dancing all the time show.  that was just plain hard.  the irony is that i’m taking tap now in the very place where we used to rehearse those many many years ago!

my first class yesterday was harder than i thought it’d be.  i can still remember my time steps, but i’d never even known about a traveling time step, or the other time step variations.  my brain refused to keep up with gary, the teacher’s, instructions.

he gave me a sheet with detailed instructions for all the time steps, though, and last night i tapped barefoot in the kitchen.  i can do the traveling time steps now.  soon i’ll be tapping all over town.

ok then,

tapping grace.
