the other evening, around five o’clock, kevin said “grace, come out and see this…”
there were two deer in the front yard, stopping by for a visit.

they didn’t stay long…

and they left, heading next door to make their way down the lane. there are certainly way too many deer around here and more every year, but they sure are beautiful.

saturday morning, kevin took out the catamaran.

here’s a video of his trip.
you might have heard me mentioning jim doing some sewing to fix the sail – it was the first time in his life jim had ever sewed anything, and here’s a closeup of his handiwork.

kevin tied up the boat.

mollie is always interested when we’re out on the water, but unless we’re in the pontoon boat, she wants no part of it.

kevin gave jim his first catamaran lesson yesterday afternoon, and i thought it went ok, except i knew that jim had tipped over at one point. but since it was his first time, it appeared that things went well. but then last night, i heard more of the story – kevin hadn’t been really specific about what could happen if he didn’t shift his weight from one pontoon to the other when turning about, and when the boat turned, jim fell in the water and got caught up in the sail and the ropes and couldn’t dive down because he was wearing a life jacket and couldn’t get out and it all sounds very, very scary to me. luckily somehow he managed to break free finally before kevin had to dive under to rescue him.
it turns out that kevin neglected to mention this part of the story to me because he’d like ME to try sailing and didn’t want to scare me. JIM IS MUCH MORE AGILE AND COORDINATED AND EXPERIENCED IN OUTDOOR STUFF THAN ME and since he had what sounds like a VERY VERY SCARY EXPERIENCE UNDER THE WATER, i’m afraid that yes, I AM AFRAID.
i’d be happy to go catamaraning with kevin. but by myself? pretty unlikely.
ok then,
still haven’t had any cake at 10:21 a.m. grace.
