it’s a moot point right now because it’s too chilly to sit out there, but when i’ve been sitting in the comfy chair on the screened porch, chester and mollie have usually been right there, because they are people animals.  as opposed to lester, who is insanely affectionate as well as bonkers, but frequently he needs his space, sleeping alone on the chair in the office or stalking something out in the yard.

lately chester has sprawled out in mollie’s big brown bed.  it’s not the most comfortable bed, but it’s better than the not-at-all soft indoor/outdoor rug.

this has been troubling to mollie, who usually prefers a bed.

yesterday morning i brought a cat bed up from the basement; it’s super-soft, but small, so a kitty would have to curl up in it.  i don’t know why i thought chester would enjoy it, because he’s always all about the sprawling.

i then brought the softer dog bed from the bedroom.  we have two dogs beds in the bedroom; the old soft one and the new, luxurious doughnut bed.

i don’t remember where mollie was when i brought in the newest bed, but chester quickly claimed it.  he’s no dummy, quickly realizing it was the softest bed in the room.

so here’s the unused cat bed, the cat in the soft bed, the poor dog lying on the floor.  she was probably lying there in protest, even though she could have had the less-optimal brown bed.

being a cat, though, chester had to get up and do some important kitty stuff, and mollie seized the opportunity to reclaim HER bed.

so chester resignedly laid down in the brown bed, although you can see he was lying there under protest, not truly getting comfortable.

after a while, because he’s a cat, chester finally let go, realizing mollie wasn’t going to budge.

it’s very hard, being a cat.

this morning, because it’s cooler, i’m sitting in the living room.  i brought the softer dog bed into the living room, putting it to the side so maybe chester would lie in it.  he’s gone right now, though, probably out in the back stalking with les.  mollie is curled up in the bed, even though the MOST soft and luxurious dog bed is right threre in the middle of the floor.

she’s probably just making sure that the bad kitty won’t usurp it.

i wonder how long it will be before chester actually lies in a bed in the living room; he’s been too skittish to ever try something so bold.  he’ll sprawl on the floor in the kitchen, or he’ll lie on the kitchen rug, but i guess the enormity of the wide-open living room is too much for him, at least for now.

i hope your friday is full of delight.

ok then,

mrs. hughes.
