we’re watching amy and jim’s zoo for a few days, and they’re getting home tonight. right now things are mellow; shadow is the only dog here and he’s sleeping on the couch with his tongue hanging out (because he has no teeth).

last night i felt horrible taking the dogs out because numie was SO COLD. he kept painfully lifting up his skinny little legs. kevin said shadow was doing the same thing this morning.

yesterday went ok; i brought numie and noodle over here for a while and we hung out in the bedroom with the fire blazing and noodle was mesmerized. he sat right in front of it, just staring at it.

last night i finally fed the fish. four giant tanks, and you may recall that they have one fish that doesn’t eat, so amy has to guide it down to the bottom of the tank to get it to eat anything, and cup her hands around it so it’ll eat.

but now the fish won’t even do that, so amy has started feeding him one peeled pea a day. this doesn’t seem like enough food, does it? one peeled pea.

so i had to feed the fish yesterday and the crazy thing swims upside-down a lot and after i peeled the pea and broke it in half, i tried to coax the fish into eating the first half. because one-half a shelled pea is quite small, of course it got away from me, and i’m not quite sure if the fish ate it or not.

i had one half left, and i knew that somehow i had to get the fish to eat it, because otherwise it might not have any sustenance all day, plus a half a shelled pea isn’t that much to begin with.

i did drop the second half down onto the rocks at the bottom of the tank but somehow managed to fish it back out, and kept trying to guide the fish towards it, but it wasn’t working out and i was getting frustrated and amazed that amy does this EVERY SINGLE DAY…and then the fish ate the pea right out of my hand.

a very strange and unusual event, let me tell you. hand-feeding a half a pea to a fish.

only at amy and jim’s house.

things will seem so mellow late tonight when amy and jim return.

they’re in chicago, by the way, where it wasn’t any colder than it was here yesterday. right now it’s zero, and i’m not going out anymore except to take care of the animals next door.

ok then,

thursday (really? already?) grace.
