amy says watching the olympics makes her want to GET IN SHAPE.

but really she’s already in shape.

we missed the DAZZLING OPENING CEREMONY but mom taped it and i’m looking forward to spending hours watching it.  i really want to see that water cube because it sounds really intriguing.

the other night i stayed up until midnight because i COULD NOT STOP WATCHING the mens’ gymnastics.  the announcers can get incredibly annoying with all their hysteria about the whole thing but they do manage to SUCK ME IN.  well, the incredible athletes are…incredible.

the men were so happy to get the bronze medal, which was apparently somewhat of a miracle because they’d lost their two best players, the hamm brothers.

but the thing i most want to know about is those poor little chinese girl gymnasts.  who would ever believe that they’re 16 years old, which is how old they’re supposed to be?  the announcers said that the chinese government claimed they were OF COURSE 15, because they had the official government IDs to prove it.

they won the gold, and they deserved it because they did the best.  their young little faces beamed after they did their final routines, and i was so happy for them because i wonder what their lives must be like.  they said they pluck these tots from preschool when they’re only three years old to train them.  do they ever get to do anything fun at all?  and what about when they mess up, are they severely punished?

i’m sure i could read all about it on the web right now but i don’t have the time because right now i’m MISSING MORE OLYMPICS.

last night we watched the mens’ relay and that michael phelps is certainly amazing.  jim told me that he eats TWELVE THOUSAND CALORIES a day.  this includes a huge omelet for breakfast plus two egg sandwiches and a salad and who knows what else, and then a pound of pasta at both lunch at dinner.  plus probably everything you can think of.

i hope he loves eating that much.  because his life doesn’t really sound any better than the chinese gymnast waifs – all he does is eat and sleep and swim.  swimming for five hours a day.  when i was “training” for those triathlons i did (quotes because i didn’t hardly train any time at all), i found the swimming to quickly be so…boring.  waterlogged.

i wonder if he takes nice vacations.  i hope so.

today erica and i went to the fair; yesterday amy and i went and we spent a lot of time petting the goats, especially the dwarf baby goats because they’re adorable and looked a lot like Shadow the dog.  i wish i’d taken a picture of one of them, and then i could put it up next to a photo of shadow.

anyway, today i had some PERFECT CULLER’S FRENCH FRIES as well as a PERFECT VOSE CORN DOG and a GIGANTIC ICE CREAM CONE.

i wonder if that was 12,000 calories?

erica and i also went on the sky glider which i could easily spend the day on.

i have to go WATCH MORE OLYMPICS now.

ok then,

wednesday grace.
