…but who’s to say that he’s a he? it could be a lady raccoon.
i took gobs and gobs of pictures the night before last, and more last night. the night before last, valentine’s night, it was snowing like crazy. mollie slept so close to the window, unaware that the raccoon was having a nice meal.

he was right there on the other side of the window, but he didn’t seem the slightest bit perturbed that i was there taking millions of photos – and it was hard to not keep taking them. he also didn’t care about the bright light i turned on in order to get the pictures. unflappable mr. raccoon.

he’d been standing up eating but he finally sat on the edge of the pan.

just hangin’ out there in the snow.

then he moved over to the other bowl of bird food for a few minutes…

…but then right back to his perch under the window. he’s getting so much snow in his fur.

i wanted him to look up at me so i could get a picture but he didn’t. well, he did, but the camera just wasn’t quick enough to capture it.
he was back last night, but this time mollie was all over it. mr. R. calmly ate as mollie barked and carried on something fierce inside the living room. she desperately, desperately wanted me to let her out onto the deck and couldn’t understand why i wouldn’t let her.
the reason it looks like the snow is gone is because i cleared it all away this morning. it didn’t melt because it was very cold. again. day after day…

this is the best picture i have of him looking at me.

and here’s mollie out in the fenced-in yard, barking her head off. her tail is frantically waving so fast that it’s just a blur.

mr. R. didn’t care.

mollie kept running inside and out, and here she is looking right out at him. notice how she’s about to put her paw up on the window sill…

and there she is, wishing more than anything that she had opposable thumbs so she could open the window and EAT THAT DAMN RACCOON.

at one point kevin watched as the raccoon LOOKED RIGHT IN AT MOLLIE. this sent her into a FRANTIC BARKING TIRADE combined with wildly tapping her paws on the window sill – she’d never done that before.
we just ordered the fancy new camera, and so, theoretically, there will be more, better photos of mr. raccoon in a few days.
today winnie has just about had it with staying inside and not getting a chance to EAT BIRDS. right now he’s standing on the window sill looking out, and occasionally meowing.
oh, and by the way, i burned 315 calories today, doing the stairmaster for 40 minutes. by my calculations that’s four chocolates plus a little bit more.
now if i can just keep my grubby paws off of the remaining few…
ok then,
tuesday grace.
