ok, it’s already 5:13 a.m. people get up at this hour. CRAZY people, yes, but i know they’re out there.

when i woke up…a couple of hours ago? or maybe an hour? i had high hopes for getting RIGHT BACK TO SLEEP, because i’m really really tired.

this was not the case.

it’s raining raining raining, and you’d think all that soothing rain sound would put me RIGHT BACK TO SLEEP. but no, here i sit in the horrible glare of the computer screen.

i bought a new beautiful rug for our bedroom, and it arrived yesterday. it has a jungle theme, with greenery all around the edges and a couple of giraffes and maybe some birds peeking out. in the middle it’s cream-colored. beautiful. in the morning when it’s light out i’ll take a picture and show you.

WHAT WAS I THINKING, BUYING A BEAUTIFUL RUG WITH ALL THAT CREAM IN THE MIDDLE?

and now it’s raining. i got up and spread the extra cover carefully all over the rug.

i’m thinking the best option would be to staple some plastic to the middle CREAM-COLORED section.

i’d laminate it, but i don’t think it would fit through our little laminating machine.

mollie will get up with kevin and have her first breakfast, and then she’ll go outside WHERE IT IS ALREADY EXTREMELY MUDDY and then she’ll waltz back in and jump up on the bed.

luckily, since i am awake and VERY ALERT, she won’t tromp her muddy paws all over the rug.

yes, the lovely bedspread will be covered with mud, but at least i can easily wash it and i’m sure it’s way past needing to be washed anyway.

the rug is doomed to not be cream-colored in the middle. i mean, it’s a given – there is no way to stop the doggie tracks from coming, unless i keep it covered. but that would be like the people who keep their lampshades covered with plastic. except different, because mollie would never be able to walk over a lampshade, and why do people do that, anyway? to keep the dust off, i imagine, but doesn’t that mean the people who do that are just too damn lazy to dust their lampshades?

i don’t spend a lot of time dusting lampshades.

damn, i wish i was at least tired. i AM tired, but also wide awake. or at least i feel like i’m wide awake.

damn.

i’m pretty sure yesterday was the LAST HOT DAY OF THE YEAR. not a bad thing, i’m thinking. my friend janice came over and we went for an outstanding boat ride. it was supposed to be VERY VERY WINDY with up to 30 MILE-AN-HOUR GUSTS, but i don’t think it was that windy. there was a nice breeze, though, and we sailed around and then turned off the motor (which is about to conk out yet again) and just floated out in the middle for a while in the dark. nice. i used to do this a lot when it was my parents’ boat, maybe 20 years ago, but i haven’t persuaded kevin to try it.

maybe there will be one more chance before we head out east. it wouldn’t be a warm night, but we could always wear jackets.

if it was getting light now, that would be nice. i guess it won’t be getting so light anyway because of the rain. a PERFECT time for sleep, right now.

ok ok ok then,
grace once again in the middle of the night, but really in the very early morning.
