it feels like we’re slowly crawling along here in january, and that spring is so far away that you can’t even begin to see it. the lake is frozen hard now, and the temps continue to be ridiculously cold.
i keep taking pictures outside, though, but now i’m so far behind in putting them up here. i’ve been spending all the free minutes i can working on my VIDEOS OF SCOTLAND. i hope to have a WHOLE NEW PAGE HERE (will i be able to figure it out by myself, or will i have to enlist christine’s aid in getting it up?), with the MANY MANY VIDEOS i’ve made. the thing is, i’m now working on video #15. each one is anywhere from six to sixteen minutes, most of them being about ten, and i don’t know what i was doing all last winter, why i didn’t make more progress then, but now i’m finally starting to feel that the end may be in sight soon…at least the end of editing them all down, anyway. because after that i have to shoot some introductions for each one, and add them in, and then i have to create the movies on my movie program, and then i have to upload them to youtube, which usually takes multiple tries for some reason, and then i have to figure out how to get them onto this site in an all-new way.
it still feels daunting, but like i said, i’m on video #15 now, which is our trip back on the Queen Mary 2, so there can’ t be that much more footage to get through, although i do remember that i shot a bunch of stuff when we went on a tour around manhattan when we got back to new york.
anyway, that is my long explanation of why i’m just now posting photos from JANUARY 7TH, 10 whole days ago. that was two fridays ago.
when i went down to the dock, there were these big duck-like footprints. but no, they’re not duck prints, are they? maybe they’re the cranes? but i haven’t seen any cranes around for quite a while now; do cranes go somewhere to keep warm when it’s really cold, like a nice hotel?
anyway, here are the prints.

i had to go to the other dock to take the picture because winnie followed me down, and he kept walking through the unidentified big bird prints. it’s funny that winnie came down, because he HATES THE SNOW AND THE COLD, even more than i do. i was surprised to see him.

mollie, of course, was happily galumphing all around, but then she and winnie got into a face-off and i had to pet everybody a lot so that mollie could pass. it’s funny that they’re both afraid of one another.

on monday i took mollie for a walk and here she is, dashing ahead. she doesn’t have a coat of any kind, except for a rain coat that she never wears, so i put this pack on her hoping it’d keep her a little bit warm. since then i’ve taken her without the pack because she’s usually running too fast to notice the cold.

here she is in the little bit of woods.

she’s looking out over the lake, which at that point was pretty frozen, but also a little watery.

she suddenly decided to dash down the little hill onto the lake. MOLLIE GET OUT OF THERE! i yelled, worried that she’d fall in because the ice wasn’t thick. HURRY UP, COME ON! this went on for a while, until she decided to scramble back up.

i guess if it wasn’t for mollie, i would mostly just stay inside in the winter. lots of times it isn’t that bad once we’re out there in it, but it’s the idea of going out in the cold that’s so daunting.

here she is at the edge of the woods.

and she’s happy to come tearing back to me if i call her.

i like to go down to the lake after walking or running, because at that moment i’m not so cold and the lake looks so beautiful no matter what.

i have a photo of the COMPLETED BASEMENT WALL that kevin built after tearing out the old one, but it’ll have to wait. it’s taken me a long time to get that picture up here, but it took him only about four days to rip out the old wall and put in an all-new one and paint it and put in new electrical outlets.
must get back to scotland now.
ok then,
mrs. cold january hughes.
