i just got an e-mail from the obama team.  for a measly 25 bucks, i got a chance to win TICKETS TO THE INAUGURATION.

Yeah yeah, i realize the chances of actually winning are very very slim.  BUT STILL THERES’ A CHANCE!!!

this is why i don’t buy lottery tickets.  i could quickly, and i mean QUICKLY, become an addict.

after i made my donation i was directed to the “inaugural collectibles” page.  i’m not even going to LOOK at it, because really, how much more obama stuff can i use around here?

i might look.  but not right now.  tomorrow morning, when i’m much more self-censoring and sensible.

so, this morning kevin and david and mom and i went to my FIRST EVER GUN SHOW.  it was at the Orr building at the fairgrounds, and i’ve never seen so many cars there.  the parking lots around the building we full, there were cars parked all along the streets outside, it was crazy.

inside, the place was pretty packed.  about 98% men, and 95% of them wore hats.  95% of the hat-wearers were wearing ball caps, but there were a few cowboy hats.

this was a HUGE GUN SHOW.  kevin has been to many, and he says it’s the biggest he’s ever seen.  many many MANY guns.  when we got there and i saw all those tables with all that stuff i thought OH MY GOD WE’RE GOING TO BE HERE ALL DAY AND I WILL PROBABLY GET SO BORED THAT I’LL HAVE TO GO LIE DOWN SOMEWHERE.

but it was kind of interesting, really.  SO MANY GUNS.  first thing, i saw a guy in an IEPA (illinois environmental protection agency) with a HUGE GUN slung over his shoulder, and a smaller gun in his hand.  the big gun was like a machine gun or something.  kevin says he had it for sale.  CRAZY.  i saw few other guys strolling around with guns, and it was impossible for me to see if they were buying or selling.

we did see one guy from kevin’s Single Action Shooting Society, “turquoise tony,” and he was walking around toting a big gun, and it was for sale.

there were quite a few pink guns.  funny that there weren’t more women there, to snap up the pink guns.  also there were some TEENY TINY guns, no bigger than a couple of inches long.  i mean, who buys such tiny guns?  three year-olds?  three year olds shouldn’t be carrying guns, it’s NOT EVEN FUNNY.  but seriously, who would want such a teeny gun?  i kept thinking that you could put one of them in a tiny evening bag…BUT WHY WOULD YOU???

there were some old guns, some of them intricate and cool-looking and i wished i had my camera but they probably don’t want you to take photos and YOU DON’T WANT ANY OF THESE GUYS TO GET MAD AT YOU.

in addition to guns there were also other thing like bullets and lots of knives and gun holsters and stuff.  a couple of people were selling candles, which i found both ridiculous and very sad.  how many of these gun-totin’ guys were in the mood to buy CANDLES?  AT A GUN SHOW???

i walked by one of the guys and he said hi and i said hi and he said “do you like candles?” and i said yes, and he said “i make these all myself and they’re much better than store-bought” and yadda yadda yadda and i smiled and said THAT’S GREAT!  and moved on.  i didn’t want any candles, but even if i had i didn’t bring any money in with me because i figured there would be nothing that i was dying to have.

at one point i was standing there, looking at this large mass of guns and people, and a woman came up to me and i couldn’t imagine what she wanted, except maybe to ask me what i was doing there, but she said “i read your website!”  seriously?  she said she was sitting there drinking coffee and saw me walk by and she had to say hi.

mom was standing next to me, and the woman said to her “i know you, too!”  so then i had to introduce her to kevin, of course.  her name is Sage, and she’s commented on here before, probably the only person who has commented who i don’t actually know.  but now i do know her, i’ve actually met her, so maybe somebody else i don’t know will be brave enough to write something.  other than all those texas hold-’em sites, of course.  or the people living in countries where i can’t even figure out what country they might be because of the strange characters they have when i’ve tried to click on their sites to see if they’re spam or not.

anyway, sage, thanks for saying hi.

i’ve been sitting here for a quite a while this afternoon trying to figure out how to get those rotating photos back, like i had on my old site, but i’ve realized that i have no clue about doing almost anything here at all, which is continually annoying.  now there are a couple of things that say “photo gallery” over there on the right, but they don’t do anything so i guess i’ll have to delete them except right now i’m incredibly sick of the whole thing.

i was amused when i went to work out this afternoon and the place was PACKED.  usually at 2:00 on a saturday afternoon the place is very dead, but of course since it’s january 3rd, people are FULL OF NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS.

my ONE AND ONLY new year’s resolution is that next new year’s eve i’m NOT STAYING UP TILL MIDNIGHT.  i was just too tired.  maybe i’d stay up til midnight if i was doing something really exciting and fun.  when we had a couple of people over on new year’s eve, we played a game for a while, and we ate and we drank, but then we turned on the TV and were watching and erica kept saying LET’S TURN OFF THE TV AND DANCE!  but nobody else had any energy to do anything at all but look at the tv, so she finally left.  hopefully she went home and danced.    we probably should have forced ourselves to dance and then we wouldn’t have been so tired.  but i don’t want to FORCED myself to do anything, especially on new year’s eve.

next year, in bed by 11.

ok then,

saturday 2009 grace.
