whew.  HAPPY BELATED NEW YEAR’S DAY!

yeah, i know, waaaaay late, not an auspicious beginning to this shiny new year.

the thing is, i spent new year’s eve in our popup camper, in fort myers, florida…

a deliciously warm way to usher in the new year, and we were gone til last saturday, the 10th, and since we’ve been home i’ve been busy busy busy…

but that’s no excuse.  at some point on our vacation i thought about resolving something, and of course at the top of my list was WRITE MORE HERE ON THIS SITE!

plus WRITE A BOOK!

WRITE WRITE WRITE!

it’s awfully early in the year to be a great big failure.

so maybe i should think of it as being kinda late to start.  easing into it.  another of my resolutions is to TRY TO BE NICER TO MYSELF.  cause i know i spend way way waaaay too much time beating myself up inside my head.  so i should try to quit that, while at the same time GETTING MORE DONE.

anyway, i have so very many photos from christmas that i have to post some of them, even though i’m so over it!

plus so very very many photos of our exciting adventures in sunny and warm florida, plus some of those are of christmas decorations, which continued to delight me because a big tree made out of poinsettias was just so funny, surrounded by so much green grass and flowers and blooming trees.

i still haven’t tried to upload the funny kitty videos yet, but I SWEAR I’LL DO IT SOON.

first a few non-kitty-related photos.

right before christmas, mom and i had stopped at erica’s house.  as we were walking out, i thought i heard music, then i realized it was christmas music, and wondered why somebody would be blaring the music.  and then i realized it was getting louder, and then saw the most dazzling sight – a city bus all decked out in xmas lights, going down the street, music blaring!  we jumped in the car and sped after it.  luckily, it was going slowly and we were finally able to meet up with it a stop light.

also, luckily, mom was there to take this picture because it was daunting to drive and shoot at the same time.

damn red suv in the way, but you get the idea…it’s a tribute to national lampoon’s “christmas vacation,” which we didn’t manage to see this year.  see the guy hanging off the side there?  really cool.  i should deck the car next year and drive it all around.

i love this picture amy took of numie.  she was frantically looking for boots for the poor cold little doggie, and here numie is modelling two kinds.

these are my final-minute gingerbread cookies.  i’d planned to make them last year, too, but by the time i got around to it i was completely sick of baking any more cookies.  luckily i had this one final burst of christmas cookie-baking eneryg, and baked a huge double recipe. i did this on christmas eve!  amy said they were her favorite cookies, and kevin loved them too.  next year, i’ll bake them first.  actually, i plan on baking some fairly soon, because it doesn’t have to be christmas to eat them!  but i won’t have to make so many shapes.

kitties kitties kitties…chester got his special little pink sock catnip toy.

he was quickly a flurry of tearing and activity, trying to rip that package open.

he kept standing up on his back feet to get at it, and it was hard to try to capture his frantic movements.

aaaah, so happy to get it…

happy, happy christmas morning kitty!

and then, lester dove into his gift.

chester relaxed in his funny chester way as les worked on his present.

finally, two happy little guys.

so darling and sweet and good…

but then, wait, chester approached aggressively…

…and suddenly it was battle of the christmas morning kitties!  maybe the catnip revved them up, or maybe it was just the general christmasy need to fight.

chester took a quick time out to wrastle with the wrapping again.

and then, the fighting started all over again, as lester bit down on chester’s leg.

they eventually calmed down and took naps, of course, and then family came over, and i have a few photos of that.  but nobody fought, and nobody bit anybody else’s foot.  as far as i’m aware of.

ok ok ok i have many things to do now,

mrs. thursday morning hughes.
