6:15 a.m.
i was lying there in bed minding my own business, sleeping as well as could be expected considering that kevin and the animals were up and making a little bit of noise.
then, mollie started BARKING LIKE CRAZY.
oh boy, something in the yard. i wish she’d shut up.
but she kept barking, kevin kept trying to get her to stop, but then he called out, “there are baby raccoons in the palm tree!”
wow. “take pictures!” i yelled. i don’t think he heard me. TAKE PICTURES! but with all the fans going, it’s not so easy to hear, so i staggered out of bed and into the living room.
OH MY GOD THEY ARE THE CUTEST THINGS EVER.
cutest. things. ever.
here’s the garbage can full of bird food. a couple of days ago, somebody chewed a big hole in the top of the can, then they made an even bigger hole. somehow the raccoons had gotten the entire lid off the can.
kevin went out to investigate, wearing his welding gloves.
OH MY GOD EVEN MORE CUTE! well, at least AS cute. i especially like it that the baby raccoon on the left is sleeping peacefully, after gorging himself all night. the center raccoon, nose buried in the can, is clearly STILL VERY HUNGRY.
kevin carried the garbage can off the porch and down into the grass, and coaxed them out. my favorite part of this video is where there’s a flurry of seeds spewing out of the can before the little raccoon BURSTS out of it. i also show a little of the destruction of the flowers on the deck – they dug up a couple of them, plus they knockedf over our big solar gazing ball, which was knocked over last year by raccoons.
cutest. ever.
meanwhile, things are here are otherwise calm. this morning a squirrel keeps coming up to the window and peering in, i think because kevin hasn’t been putting any more bird food on top of the grill on the deck. the squirrel is PISSED OFF. here he comes again.
mollie is sleeping on the couch beside me, and les paul is asleep on the coffee table. les is now a free-range kitty, inside, anyway. we’re somehow going to have to make him be an inside kitty, because i’m pretty sure he’d head for the hills if given the chance. he’s very content at the moment.
ok then,
mrs. monday morning hughes.
