i woke up and it was gray again and then i realized it SNOWED last night. not that much snow, but with the weather we’re having and are going to have, there’s little chance of it melting. ever.
it might get up into the 20’s today, but tomorrow the high is supposed to be five. yeah, five. a low of minus five.
last night at six i took the dogs down to the dock (we’re petsitting for amy and jim for a few days). the lake wasn’t frozen.
this morning, frozen.
the part in the middle there isn’t frozen, but the rest of it is.
this looks like the lake has been shoveled. That’s snow over the ice, and for some reason there’s no snow on those two strips.
this is how kevin has been spending his retirement time. making leather gun belts and holsters. the holster isn’t complete in this first photo. He cut out and made each one of those little bullet holders.
he made all of this – he cut out the leather and dyed it and tooled it and stitched it up and put in the rivets. very impressive.
he didn’t take a lot of pictures of his work, and next time clearly i’m going to have to help him take some lovely photos to show them off. perhaps he needs a model, or at least a nice background for display.
on other fronts…the governor is going to swear in the il senate today at noon. i’m going to watch it on TV. Burris is going to be seated in the US senate. here’s what he said on TV on Sunday:
“While distancing himself from Blagojevich’s troubles stemming from his arrest on Federal corruption charges last month (“I have nothing to do with all of his problems. Those are his problems.”), Burris also defended the man who appointed him to fill Obama’s seat.
“Remember this: a person who does bad can also do good,” Burris said. “What Governor Blagojevich did was good for the U.S. and the people of Illinois … Appointing me to that vacancy was certainly good.””
yeah, what a smart guy, that governor, appointing such a fine man to the post.
so now we have Durbin, the senior senator, who is perhaps the biggest waffler i’ve ever read about, and now burris, who so far just feels that this chance is a clear sign from God (yes he actually said that) and want to do “the best for the people of Illinois” even though nobody thought he should be seated because of the man who seated him. today’s paper pointed out that burris hasn’t mentioned any of his positions on anything at all, so who knows, maybe he’ll manage to do something good during his term. or at least no harm.
