if you’re a smith, BE CAREFUL! i’m talking to you, aunt sandy!
as you may recall, dad fell and broke both wrists on dec. 30th. he had plates put in both wrists and now one of them is healing better than the other one. he’ll be in casts till late this month, and then hopefully he’ll be better.
but on sunday night, aunt sandy called to say that my uncle jimmy, dad’s half-brother, got HIT WITH A FRAME AT A CONSTRUCTION SITE, and it shattered his leg and he had to be operated on that night and a rod put in his femur!
what kind of frame? a door frame? a big steel construction frame thing? and shattered, was it really shattered? i think somebody said it was broken in multiple places.
he’s in the hospital till tomorrow and then he’ll be hobbling around his house – even though i’ve never been there, i’ve seen photos and i can’t imagine it’d be easy trying to get up and down the staircases in his big victorian home. maybe he’ll have to stay ground-level for a while.
i had to take some pictures of the geese on the lake this morning, and i must get busy and post them. a man is here today mitigating our RADON. yes, our house is steeped in radon and we’ve been breathing in the DEADLY FUMES for a year and a half.
of course, since mom grew up here and had to sleep in the dark cold basement when she was growing up because it was a small, one-bedroom cottage, and the basement is where all the radon seeps in, and then she and dad moved back here 20-odd years ago and lived here for 20 years, you’d think she’d have caught RADON FEVER by now.
it’s probably not radon fever, the disease you get from breathing in all the radon. it’s probably something much more serious, like lung cancer. but RADON FEVER sounds more thrilling, and could be the title of a hit song and also a movie.
mollie is being extremely rude to the man who is fixing all of our radon problems. she barked at him furiously when he got here, and even though he bent down and petted her and she let him, she then kept barking. right now he’s working out in the garage and she’s lying at the front door, muttering under her breath and growling. lighten up, wold you dog?
and she IS lightening up – this is day four of her diet and it’s going very well, plus we’ve been out running in the cold every day which she enjoys thoroughly. i’m not so crazy about it, but hey, i’m half of the reason she got so fat, so the least i can do is go running out in the COLD COLD COLD instead of climbing the stairmaster to nowhere in the nice warm fitclub.
ok then,
tuesday grace.
