Kevin dedicates a good portion of his time to keeping the cats in their respective outside areas. He finally thwarted Lester from escaping the fenced yard (but probably only temporarily), and somehow Spot managed to escape from his private (shared with lemon Drop) kitty patio AKA the cat prison yard. After Kevin had expanded it, Spot was able to climb up and out, and here, on a chilly April morning, Kevin made repairs while I sat around in my pajamas.

Amy observed the machinations and though it was funny that we were both standing up over the top of the fortress.

Spot continued to do this for a couple more times. I knew because I was sitting in the living room and heard a big “thump,” which was Spot hopping up on the top.
Right now, all is peaceful, cat-wise. This deer sure was close; soon they’ll be coming inside and hanging out with the cats.

Here’s Lovey and RIley enjoying the day.

On April 16th we were about to head out for our first-of-season boat ride and were surprised to see this goose nesting right there on the dock. I’m sure we weren’t as surprised as she was.

We went down to the dock several times after this and she continued to give us the stink eye. Actually, Kevin read about geese nesting and said that the parent take turns, which is nice.
We cruised over to Long Bay which is one of my favorite spots. Thinking about it now, maybe it’s because it’s more like a little river.
Someday I want to take a river cruise, not on one of those bit river cruise ships, but rather on a canal boat, just Kevin and me. We could rent a canal boat and take it on some little canal in France or Italy or the UK. But for now it’s mighty fine to be able to boat right here on our lake.
I plan to go boating more this year than I ever have, because you just don’t know what’s going to happen and I might as well be boating. Heading out on the water immediately brings me a feeling of peace.

I’ll do that when I’m taking a break from the never-ending yard work, of course.
Here are two families of geese at the end of April, but our goose at the shore wasn’t one of them. Her eggs did finally hatch a while later. One morning we counted 24 goslings.

Spot always enjoys a good roll in a driveway when I take him for a walk.

My favorite perennial, the bleeding heart, was bigger this year than ever before. I wish they bloomed all summer long and I always feel like I don’t spend enough time just observing them, taking in their delicate shape and how interesting it is to study how they evolve into such a beautiful and unique bloom.

And that’s it for April, as I feel like May is getting away from me, although I know that really, it’s not. But it’s a perfect day to be outside, with temps in the 70s and a nice breeze and I hope to do a great deal of weeding and raking and mulching.
This morning I already dug up quite a few of the dreaded and evil chameleon plants, and I’ve been pleased to see that there aren’t quite as many this year.
It’d be nice to weed and then not weed anymore during the summer but of course that’s not how it goes. I appreciate how fortunate I am to be able to devote so much time to keeping up appearances. Dad would be happy about that.
Ok then,
Mrs. kind of reflective Hughes.
