first, the REALLY REALLY BAD…my computer BROKE.\u00a0 saturday night, we had mom and dad over, and were watching many flashmobs on youtube because they’re dad’s favorite thing.\u00a0 afterwards, my screen was FULL OF STATIC.\u00a0 uh oh.<\/p>\n
i thought it was a pernicious virus from one of the flashmobs.<\/p>\n
kevin was able to run a scan, i thought it was ok…but sunday morning, MORE FUZZY LINES.<\/p>\n
oh dear.\u00a0 i realized it wasn’t the internet at all, it was the computer itself.\u00a0 it seemed to go bad whenever i tilted the screen.<\/p>\n
CAN THEY FIX IT? i took it to best buy yesterday and YES THANK GOD THEY CAN FIX IT.<\/p>\n
whew.\u00a0 but it could take UP TO A MONTH.\u00a0 but the guy assured me it won’t take that long, but it’s gonna be at least 10 days i figure.<\/p>\n
oh brother.\u00a0 i took many more pictures, mostly of lester, and now, how will i upload them?<\/p>\n
oh yeah, i didn’t mention that the backup computer i could use, in the office, ALSO BROKE – it won’t connect to the internet now and gives me many weird and annoying messages.<\/p>\n
so now i’m DOWN HERE IN THE SUB-BASEMENT MAN CAVE, surrounded by various gun parts and bullet-making things and stacks of things that i don’t know what they are.\u00a0 plus it is cold and dark, but on the other hand it’s awful and gray and horribly windy outside, so maybe it’s not the worst day to be in the man cave.<\/p>\n
kevin also has at least FOUR empty cat litter tubs; why?\u00a0 i’m sure he is saving, them, but FOR WHAT???<\/p>\n
plus, this giant icon of a lock keeps popping up on the screen, which surely can’t be good.<\/p>\n
maybe i can put the photos on a zip drive and plug it into this computer; at least it does seems to have a usb hub or two.<\/p>\n
meanwhile, how am i going to check the hourly weather forecast to know when it’s safe to go running?\u00a0 well, for now i know it’s not going to be good any time.<\/p>\n
also, how am i supposed to monitor the HORRIBLE CRUISE SHIP CRASH?\u00a0 for one thing, obviously the captain of the ship should be in jail for a very long time, but what about the rest of the crew?\u00a0 it all seemed like a literal “titanic” thing, except that there’s no steerage anymore, except grown men were pushing people aside.<\/p>\n
when we went on the QM2, both times we had a thorough emergency drill so at least we knew exactly where the lifeboats were, plus we could see them from our balcony anyway.\u00a0 there were many, many crew members, each in charge of a small number of passengers, and they all clearly knew exactly what they were doing.<\/p>\n
that doesn’t mean, of course, that there wouldn’t be some pandemonium if we had sunk.\u00a0 plus of course it probably would have happened in the middle of the ocean, and you know what happened to leonardo dicaprio when he tried to swim.\u00a0 i still maintain that he and kate could have taken turns clinging to that piece of wood or whatever it was.<\/p>\n
it’s so weird to think of such a horrible thing happening to those poor people, and i think about our table-mates, for example, all having to find their way to lifeboats.\u00a0 plus i kept saying to kevin, what about your insulin, how would you get it?\u00a0 he said he’d just go get it in the cabin.\u00a0 but if we’d been in the dining room, on deck two, and he had to get to the cabin, way up on deck 11, or was it 8?\u00a0 it would have been a very long trek, in the dark, with a bunch of hysterical screaming people.<\/p>\n
knowing kevin, though, he’d have had a flashlight plus a very calm and collected plan about getting us to safety.\u00a0 even though he says he doesn’t know so much about computer stuff anymore cause he’s retired so he’s not able to fix the backup upstairs computer, thank goodness he’ll still be calm and collected if we ever sink.<\/p>\n
even though the upstairs computer has no internet, it does, unfortunately, still have bejeweled three, which i started playing for some MORONIC reason and have become totally addicted again.<\/p>\n
it’s always something.<\/p>\n
theoretically there will be photos soon.<\/p>\n
but only in theory, of course.<\/p>\n
