why isn’t the whole paper available online anyway?

all the halloween decorations have now been taken down. a very good thing.

last night we went to felicia and mike’s 25th anniversary party and we were supposed to dress like our favorite decade. i can’t say that i really have a favorite decade. i’d have to say that this decade is the best, but there have been large portions of it that haven’t been so great, actually.

and what do we say this decade is, anyway? there are the 70’s and the 80’s…will we refer to this as the “zeros?”

because we ran out of time in planning for the party, we decided to wear whatever we could find. luckily amy had three giant tubs of halloween costumes, and we dug through them yesterday afternoon and found some 70’s stuff that was great. kevin wore a curly blonde wig and a big shirt that she had, and i wore my tiger pants, the one i wore for the last “gracetalk,” and some crazy boots of amy’s. we looked more dressed up than we were at halloween, somehow. kevin was VERY VERY FUNNY in his curly blonde wig, and i’d download the picture of us right now except i don’t want to go to the trouble at the moment. tomorrow, i promise, and that’s actually technically today.

he also wore a pair of jeans that we turned into bell bottoms. i did the hard part of the job including ripping the seams and then pinning the fabric to the jeans and ironing it and i sewed most of them but then ran out of time and had to get ready to go so he finished up.

the idea of sewing is quite appealing; there’s lots of great fabric at the sewing store (I bought black material with red and yellow flames on it) and it seems that one could make something quite nice. if one was very patient.

i’ve been told before that i’m a patient person, and i guess i am in some thing, but sewing isn’t one of them. it makes me swear more than usual. i always stick myself with pins about a hundred times. i frequently end up sewing something together that wasn’t supposed to be sewn together and then have to rip it out.

but because we had very little time to make the bell bottoms yesterday, somehow they worked out ok. and they were worth it, because i’m sure kevin is going to start wearing the jeans all the time.

with the wig, of course.

damn, the wig was funny. it’s suddenly like i married a hippie.

happy monday. i know that many of you have two days off this week, which seems like a very good week, plus it’s supposed to be kind of warm out. it was quite warm today and we did lots of yard work and i may not be able to raise my arms at all tomorrow from all the effort today.

one final thing, i know i’ve written about the cats bringing in various dead or alive animals. now i think we have some kind of creature that sneaks into the garage and eats the cats’ food. kevin refilled the cat food dispenser on thursday or friday, and i looked tonight and it’s almost gone. this is a BIG dispenser and there’s no way the cats could have eaten it all. it’s up high so mollie won’t eat it.

what could it be? something small enough to fit through the doggie door, but it’s not a mouse because a mouse wouldn’t have eaten so much food. a flock of mice? a very small deer? a bunny? a possum? wouldn’t mollie have smelled or heard it, though, sneaking in every night?

i have noticed lately that she doesn’t seem interested in waking up for anything.

but today she dug a giant deep hole in the garden because she felt she found something (she didn’t) and then later she tried to nose down into the heating vent because i’m sure she smelled a mouse.

very strange. i’m going to sprinkle flour all around the floor where the cat food sits. of course it’s not like i’ll be able to ascertain what kind of animal it is by the paw prints. but i guess if the kitties leave a trail of flour i’ll know it’s just them. but it can’t be, because so much food keeps disappearing.

miniature deer, that’s my guess.

do deer even eat cat food?

i have to go sprinkle flour now.

ok then,

grace.

i guess that link had a shelf life. it worked when i first put it in. so if you’re dying to read the article, you’ll have to wait till we get the secret information from the paper for accessing it. why can’t it just be available online like other parts of the paper?
