last night we went to the sangamon auditorium, a mere five minutes away, and listened to the amazing band BEAUSOLEIL.\u00a0 they’re a cajun band and they’ve been around a long long time – since 1975 – and they’re world-renown.\u00a0 i hadn’t heard of them, but kevin knew all about them.\u00a0 the tickets were only twenty bucks, ridiculously cheap, and i figured there would be scads of people there.<\/p>\n
there weren’t.\u00a0 the auditorium was maybe half-full.\u00a0 it was general admission, so we sat way down front.\u00a0 the show was going to be outside, and the day before i’d gotten a call from the auditorium saying to be sure to remember to bring lawn chairs, and that no coolers were allowed.<\/p>\n
i clearly didn’t listen to all of that message, because apparently it also said to check the website the day of the show for updates.\u00a0 we were the only ones carrying in our lawn chairs and i kept saying, “wow, where do these people think they’re going to sit?”<\/p>\n

it’s been blistering hot and crazy humid, but there was a breeze last night and i thought the show would have been fine outside.\u00a0 but many of the audience members were way older than us, so maybe they wouldn’t have liked that.<\/p>\n
their last album is called “alligator purse,” and michael doucet, the founder and lead singer\/fiddler, talked about the song “alligator purse” before playing it, mentioning that it was taken from a children’s rhyme and then i realized OF COURSE!<\/p>\n

have you heard or sung it?\u00a0 kevin had never even heard of it before so i sung it for him.\u00a0 he was QUITE impressed.<\/p>\n
actually, i’m pretty sure it was one of those songs we sung while doing some complicated clapping thing.<\/p>\n
i love that song.<\/p>\n
beausoleil’s rendition was good, too.\u00a0 maybe we need to buy that album.<\/p>\n
