As I got ready to go to the beach to run, I found this kernel of corn in my big fanny pack. It made me smile, because this is the last nugget of the outlaw corn that I kept pilfering from the fields around the university. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
When the corn ripened last year, I started breaking off some of the cobs and throwing it on the ground for the deer. Actually, I’ve done this for many years. But then I decided to take a few cobs home for the many deer around our house. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I feel I’ve told this story before, but anyway, one day when I’d just picked some of the corn a university worker guy pulled up in a little tractor and said “What do you think you’re doing?” and I stammered that I was just picking the corn for the deer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He proceeded to give me a lecture about how doing that attracts deer to the road and then they’ll get run over. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Really, this was your best argument? He made no mention of the fact that I was stealing their corn. But there are always many deer all over the place around here and they’re frequently crossing the road, and it had nothing to do with the corn I was picking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I can’t remember exactly what he threatened me with, but then Kevin told me that they have lots of cameras everywhere. And I wish the details weren’t so hazy, but I remember getting stopped and chastised a second time by yet another groundskeeper there at the university. Good grief. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
So I started going into total stealth mode, making sure that I was out of range of the cameras that must be on the light poles even though I’ve as yet not been able to see them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
After I’d pulled down a dozen or two ears, shucking them and throwing them to the ground for the university deer, I then put at least a couple of ears in my big fanny pack and stuck two more up my sleeves. Anyway, long story about how funny it was that I still had that lone kernel of corn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n I filled up the car with our beach stuff and drove to the beach around 9:00. I found a most excellent spot because it was so early, and went running from there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n It took me a while to figure out about driving the car to the beach and leaving it there, but finally did it on our last day. I ran to the pier again and these three pelicans were perched on the pole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Once again I couldn’t resist taking so many photos but here are just a few.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n As I ran back over the bridge a bunch of pelicans were swimming around in the causeway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n I changed into my bathing suit and was ready for the beach before 11 a.m… <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n This time I intentionally went swimming and it was great and I’d like to go to the beach every year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile, around here…I can’t believe we’re into April already.
