I went for a run on the 4th and had to take a selfie next to this very tall corn, well past “knee high by the 4th of July.” Lately I’ve been pulling cobs of corn off the stalks and peeling them for the deer as I run by. The corn sure does look ready to pick to me, but I know it’ll have to dry out first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I remember that I started pulling corn off the stalks after our dog Mollie died; I got obsessive about pulling as many cobs off the stalks as I could as I ran. I think maybe I pulled around a hundred during a run, but I could just be making that up. So I’ve been doing that since 2013, but not obsessively. No so obsessively anyway. The other day a couple of deer were standing next to the corn as I an by and after I’d tossed the shucked cobs on the ground I was pleased to look back and see that they were digging in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later in the day we went for a lovely boat ride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I got Mom to drive, and the one thing better than a boat ride is when somebody else drives and I can relax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I jumped in the water which is also fun, except it’d be nice sometime to jump in the water with somebody else. I’ve been jumping in the water when I have time after I run and I did that just today. The water is still fairly cool, which is refreshing for August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was a storm that 4th of July night and poor little Spot was curled up under this small step stool. I later covered it with a sheet so it would make him feel even more protected. I wonder if he’ll ever mellow out about storms, since he’s an inside kitty now? I bet not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m hoping to try to integrate Spot and Lemon Drop into the general mix of cats, but it makes me a little nervous and I know Kevin doesn’t think it’s time yet. It’d be great to not have to separately visit with them a few times a day as well as Pumpkin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After visiting Spot and Lemon Drop I headed upstairs, where Pumpkin doesn’t have a problem with storms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two nights later, another storm, so this time I covered Spot in this blanket. Meanwhile Lemon Drop was racing around chasing a feather on a string. It’s nice that she’s brave about something, since she’s so scared of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
