hard to believe. it rains and rains and rains some more, all the time…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

meanwhile…on friday, may 17th, i went to bloomington with glenn and julie to see the musician paul thorn. her sister’s husband had heard about him, and julie and her sister’s saw him perform in ohio. her sister is a huge fan now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

when we got out of our car in front of the theater, way before concert time because we were going to go eat first, i looked across the street and saw some guys moseying out the side door. i’d only seen part of a youtube clip of the band that afternoon, but i was pretty sure that the guy in the red t-shirt was mr. thorn. i encouraged julie to let me take her picture with him, and we hustled across the street and he was very gracious and laid-back. fun way to start our night!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the restaurant, located on the same block as the theater was nice, organic, all that kinda stuff. i had incredibly delicious salmon, and i had to take a picture of this giant rooster, because he looks a lot like the roosters in our yard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

well, they were in our yard last year – we still have to shore up the shoreline before i want to put anything out. i don’t want them to get sucked into the water!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

back at home, kevin was relaxing with sweetie. gee, that was not even two weeks ago, and she’s progressed to spending most of her time downstairs in the living room with us. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

i had a delicious and very pretty chocolate tart for dessert. it came with “strawberry milk,” and i wasn’t sure if i was supposed to pour it over the top, or what. it reminded me of strawberry quik, we used to have that when we were kids. this stuff wasn’t bright pink enough to be quik, though, and quik probably isn’t the most healthy, organic, all-natural thing around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

glenn and julie both got these fancy lemon things – maybe some kind of cake with a big blob of custard on top. plus artistic sprinklings of things…the yellow things are gooseberries! i had a salad with gooseberries in it, but they bore scant resemblance to the gooseberries we ate off our gooseberry bushes when i was little. those had been almost translucent, and when they ripened they were squishy and purple. maybe gooseberries have evolved?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

back at home again…kevin bought a ton of rocks to pour in the giant hole along the shore. he’s going to buy more of it, and then we’re going to get a barge-full of big rock to pile against the shoreline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

there was limited seating at the theater and i was concerned that we’d be standing for a very long time, but by some miracle there were three great seats left when we got there. we were up in the balcony; the theater looks like a converted old movie theater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

i walked down to the main floor to get this picture. great band.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and finally…we took a boat ride and there was a momma swan and two darling little babies! the father swan was chasing off a fishing boat, and as we approached it made a beeline for us. i decided we’d better back out quickly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

on our next boat ride the swans were still there, but this time there was only one baby. hopefully it makes it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
