here’s part of our second and last full day on mackinac, thursday, sept. 22nd. \u00a0the morning started out wet and chilly, and it was fun to sit on the big front porch and look out.<\/p>\n

we’d planned to go to the Grand Hotel for the lunch buffet, so we eventually ambled down the road in that direction. \u00a0this time we walked around the perimeter of the island instead of climbing the hill, and we found this plaque where they shot one of the scenes from “somewhere in time.”<\/p>\n

here it is! \u00a0we’ll have to watch the movie soon, because it’s one of kevin’s favorites and i’ve only seen it once or twice, very long ago.<\/p>\n

we had to climb a path to get to the Grand, and here we are down near the clubhouse, tennis courts, and pool. \u00a0behind us are some of the many bikes they have.<\/p>\n

kevin dressed up in one of his nice hawaiian shirts for the occasion.<\/p>\n

sadie’s ice cream palor, at the hotel – more on this later.<\/p>\n

lunch started at noon, and we got there a half hour early to stand in line. \u00a0we were very close to the front of the line.<\/p>\n

it’s a huge restaurant; this is only part of it. we were seated at one of the front windows, an excellent location.<\/p>\n

it was really a splendid buffet.<\/p>\n

i got a lot of raw oysters but unfortunately they were the only things that weren’t so good. \u00a0they had an odd consistency (kevin hates oysters and i know he thinks that the consistency is always horrible!)<\/p>\n

the best part of the buffet was the dessert selection. \u00a0i ate just a little bit of the many kinds of desserts i selected, and they all tasted as good as they looked. \u00a0scrumptious. \u00a0this is a rare thing for a buffet, i’ve found.<\/p>\n

that square thing in the front is a piece of melon, so obviously i was trying to be a little bit healthy amidst all the deliciousness. \u00a0but it was also a good melon!<\/p>\n
