{"id":13851,"date":"2016-07-13T09:14:39","date_gmt":"2016-07-13T14:14:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/?p=13851"},"modified":"2016-07-13T09:14:39","modified_gmt":"2016-07-13T14:14:39","slug":"wednesday-august-26-2015-the-new-forest-in-england","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wales-2015\/wednesday-august-26-2015-the-new-forest-in-england\/","title":{"rendered":"Wednesday, August 26, 2015 &#8211; the New Forest in England"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wednesday morning we got up and Carol made us a delicious breakfast, and then we headed for the other side of Southampton. \u00a0I&#8217;d booked us a b&amp;b in Ashhurst, at the edge of the New Forest. \u00a0It was only a short drive from the b&amp;b to the port, which we&#8217;d sail from on thursday.<\/p>\n<p>but first&#8230;the drive.<\/p>\n<p>oh boy. i wrote in the my journal how ironic that the first and last days of driving on our trip were the worst &#8211; on the first day we&#8217;d started out by getting lost trying to get to the storage place that was only a few minutes away, then we made a wrong turn, then couldn&#8217;t get any money from an ATM, then the roads in wales just kept getting smaller and smaller&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>but this was trouble in the form of rain. \u00a0no, not rain, but a torrential downpour. \u00a0buckets and buckets of rain, and what was supposed to be an easy two-hour drive was, instead, three and half hours of nail-biting awfulness.<\/p>\n<p>the traffic on the mighty M3 was terrible, and sometimes we just crept along, and at some points i think people were exiting in droves because it was too awful to drive in.<\/p>\n<p>ugh. \u00a0i guess it&#8217;s easier to hike up a mountain in the rain than it is to drive in it. \u00a0well, i wasn&#8217;t doing the driving. \u00a0and being in the car was certainly much drier. \u00a0but not scenic in any way.<\/p>\n<p>our first destination was that elusive lok n store storage facility. \u00a0this time i was fully prepared to find it, and with the help of the GPS and maps, we successfully made it back.<\/p>\n<p>here&#8217;s kevin, so happy to retrieve our bags.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13838\" src=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w868.jpg\" alt=\"w868\" width=\"540\" height=\"405\" srcset=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w868.jpg 540w, https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w868-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>ta da! \u00a0did we only have three bags in there? \u00a0all i know is, we will never ever take so much luggage with us, no matter how long we&#8217;ll be gone.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-13839\" src=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w869.jpg\" alt=\"w869\" width=\"537\" height=\"403\" srcset=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w869.jpg 540w, https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w869-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 537px) 100vw, 537px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>and then, it was a quick and easy ten minutes to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewillowsbandb.co.uk\/\">The Willows B&amp;B<\/a>\u00a0in Ashurst.<\/p>\n<p>I picked a good one. because it wasn&#8217;t quite three in the afternoon, the woman who ran the place wasn&#8217;t home, but luckily her husband was home from work, and he let us in.<\/p>\n<p>i was so pleased with the place; i wrote that i thought it was the nicest one we were in on our whole stay. \u00a0hmm, i don&#8217;t know if that&#8217;s true, but it was very lovely.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13840\" src=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w870.jpg\" alt=\"w870\" width=\"540\" height=\"405\" srcset=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w870.jpg 540w, https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w870-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>towel warmers! \u00a0maybe that&#8217;s why i liked it so much&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13841\" src=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w871.jpg\" alt=\"w871\" width=\"540\" height=\"405\" srcset=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w871.jpg 540w, https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w871-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>in looking for a place to stay this last night, i stumbled upon\u00a0the New Forest. \u00a0i&#8217;d never heard of it, but it sounded like a good place to do some walking if we felt like it.<\/p>\n<p>here&#8217;s what wikipedia says about the New Forest:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>The <b>New Forest<\/b> is an area of southern England which includes one of the largest remaining tracts of unenclosed <a style=\"color: #000000;\" title=\"Pasture\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pasture\">pasture<\/a> land, <a class=\"mw-redirect\" style=\"color: #000000;\" title=\"Heath (habitat)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Heath_(habitat)\">heathland<\/a> and forest in the heavily populated <a style=\"color: #000000;\" title=\"South East England\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/South_East_England\">south east of England<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-2\" class=\"reference\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_Forest#cite_note-2\">[2]<\/a><\/sup> It covers south-west <a style=\"color: #000000;\" title=\"Hampshire\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hampshire\">Hampshire<\/a> and extends into south-east <a style=\"color: #000000;\" title=\"Wiltshire\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wiltshire\">Wiltshire<\/a> and towards east <a style=\"color: #000000;\" title=\"Dorset\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dorset\">Dorset<\/a>.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>The name also refers to the New Forest <a style=\"color: #000000;\" title=\"National parks of England and Wales\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/National_parks_of_England_and_Wales\">National Park<\/a> which has similar boundaries. Additionally the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" style=\"color: #000000;\" title=\"New Forest (district)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_Forest_(district)\">New Forest local government district<\/a> is a subdivision of Hampshire which covers most of the Forest and some nearby areas, although it is no longer the planning authority for the National Park itself. There are many villages dotted around the area, and several small towns in the Forest and around its edges.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>ok, i keep reading that bit &#8211; it&#8217;s funny that the New Forest is an area, and also a national park? \u00a0regardless, it&#8217;s a very nice place that i&#8217;m glad we found.<\/p>\n<p>luckily the rain had stopped, and we strolled down the street and took a nice hour and a half hike around a little bit of the New Forest, which seems like a wonderful place, even though we saw only the tiniest bit of it.<\/p>\n<p>here&#8217;s a nice horse as we walked towards the entrance of the path.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13842\" src=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w872.jpg\" alt=\"w872\" width=\"540\" height=\"405\" srcset=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w872.jpg 540w, https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w872-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>it was certainly diametrically opposed to the last hike we&#8217;d taken, our monday rainy hike in wales. \u00a0there was a nice wide gravel path, and it was almost laughably flat.<\/p>\n<p>flat can be nice.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13843\" src=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w873.jpg\" alt=\"w873\" width=\"540\" height=\"405\" srcset=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w873.jpg 540w, https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w873-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>and it was beautiful and not very crowded. \u00a0we did see a group of some kind of scouts riding by, and a few other walkers, but not many people. \u00a0a great and relaxing walk after riding in the car in the downpour.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13844\" src=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w874.jpg\" alt=\"w874\" width=\"540\" height=\"405\" srcset=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w874.jpg 540w, https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w874-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>as we walked back to the b&amp;b we passed a pub with the delightful name <a href=\"http:\/\/www.happycheeseashurst.co.uk\/\">The Happy Cheese Pub<\/a> and there was quite a lake of water in front of it. \u00a0now i kind of wish we&#8217;d eaten dinner there, but it was still a little early for dinner.<\/p>\n<p>if i was going to have a pub, i think that&#8217;d be an excellent name.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13845\" src=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w875.jpg\" alt=\"w875\" width=\"540\" height=\"405\" srcset=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w875.jpg 540w, https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w875-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>instead, we stopped back at our b&amp;b then strolled\u00a0down the street in the opposite direction to a delicious place called the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.forest-inn.co.uk\/\">Forest Inn<\/a>. \u00a0mmm, i&#8217;m happy we didn&#8217;t go to the Happy Cheese Pub, this place was so delicious.<\/p>\n<p>first, they brought all this yummy bread. \u00a0the butter is resting on stones!
